Sounds like a row back to me. 20 years is a dig at the management of the clubs not the players who’ve been there 5 mins.
The article doesn't seem to give any quotes from him clarifying what he meant - probably just going off the tweets from AG and Paul O'Keef
Someone said it sounded more like 'honor' rather than 'owner' when they watched the presser - as in 'they haven't won anything, for 20 years they have that same honor'

Conte's English is utterly utterly brilliant compared to my Italian, but he does struggle to convey the fine details and nuances of what he wants to say (to the press or the players or Levy probably).
Getting rid of players isn’t always that simple with our chairman though is it Steff….
Haven't watched it myself just saw it mentioned yesterday, if he's saying he wasn't digging out the owners then i don't see how he can do that if he specifically mentions them in that manner

Poch did though mate. He completely removed Kaboul, Ade, and Capoue until they were eventually sold.
Ndombele, Lo Celso and others that he doesn't want aren't part of the squad, it doesn't seem that big of a problem.

Why is it happening?
Why? Because they are used to it here, they are used to it. They don't play for something important yeah. They don't want to play under pressure, they don't want to play under stress. It is easy in this way. Tottenham's story is this. 20 years there is the owner and they never won something but why? The fault is only for the club, or for every manager that stay here? I have seen the managers that Tottenham had on the bench. You risk to disrupt the figure of the manager and to protect the other situation in every moment.

Yeah, all ones that were loaned out and none that had a previous big impact at the club. If it was some Levy deemed was valuable, he would not be comfortable just loaning them out and would be demanding a decent fee….
Who would these big impact players be that Conte would have wanted rid of in the summer that the Club would have put a block on?
We only have a small number of players that fit that description and Conte plays them all week in week out
Just any consistent first teamer, but this is all pointless guesswork. But the point I was making was that Cancelo was used as an example - a player who has been a big performer in the PL and City got rid. Yes we have got rid of players out on loan who havent been good enough. But would our equivalent of Cancelo depart so easily if Conte wanted rid with Levy at the helm? Not so sure personally….
