Champions League 22/23

Might well sound daft, but I can still see Liverpool winning in Madrid tonight, just dont be by 3 goals

It was daft .. Pool has zero chance against Madrid, it's a bad style/mentality match up.

Bum rush, long ball tactics will never worry Madrid, nor will early goals.

That game yesterday looked like one team with tons of experience and quality against a side that had just run out of ideas and despite trailing by 3 goals was obviously terrified Madrid could tear them apart at will.

Klopp was furious at the end on the sidelines, my opinion is the players ignored him, looked like they decided they had no desire to concede another 5, so never really went for it.

There are reports today that he is going to wield the axe there now and start to rebirth of the club, they need it, he is another too loyal to some

They don't have the money (no more than us really), if they don't get CL it handicaps them even more.

They have waited too long to refresh, instead of more attackers, they should have bought midfielders and defenders in last couple of years.

I think the next few games for them are critical, if they fall off even further it will be a mess

No i agree, I said a while back they would tank this season as Mane was a HUGE loss

He has made things messy there too IMO, he went from Mane, Firminho, Salah to what they have now, Salah does not wanna play with Luiz apparently, Jota been out injured but probably should be playing, Nunez looks far too expensive for what he is and Firminho for me should be playing more as he has a better understanding than Nunez. Gakpo was also odd when he had 2 players for that role already....

Surely he knew Milner, Hnderson and Fab were broken?

Yep, it's odd, I agree

- They have a good front line, but there is no chemistry between them
- Without Mane they lost a huge part of the press from the front
- The midfield was always a weak point, they just had a limited role
- The WBs have been brutally exposed as unable to defend
- VVD is not the same player post injury, and the system often leaves CBs so badly exposed you needed an elite CB to cover
- There is some level of physical/mental fatigue on an aging team after years of bum rush football

I don't see how one or two players solve the issues

Brilliant player and one of the best ever to wear our shirt. As for Trent he is brick as a defender.

How long can he continue to back Trent? He's been poor defensively for ages now. Surely he either has to sell him or find a new position for him? Although saying that, last season Liverpool were flying so there must be a system where they can cover his weaknesses and still get the best out of him?

I do not think they will get rid of him to be honest, he is a very good player going forward but as i say he is brick as a defender. He has got away with getting caught out of posistion because of the work Liverpools m/f do to cover him but they are getting past their best. Not really in to watching England so i am not sure if he played a lot in the world cup just gone. If it was me i would see him/try him as a winger and forget his defensive dutys.

Southgate doesn't really pick him, his best year was 4 appearances.

Problem for him at Pool is the winger in front of him is Salah, so either he works as a WB or he's out

Do not disagree to be honest but as a player he does have talent so i think Klopp will have to look at it now his midfield are finished and leaves Trent wide open.

Given the draw, one of Benfica or Napoli should make it to the CL Final this year. All the big guns are on the other side of the bracket. Should be interesting. If we had made it through, does anyone think we would be able to negotiate Napoli and the winner of Benfica-Inter?

Christ. Thats annoying, would have had a good shout v Benfica. Not so sure about Napoli, but would certainly been on the right side of the draw.

Makes the exit feel even worse, decent draws would have awaited in both the FA Cup and CL, and we messed it right up...we best make sure of 4th now

Napoli are decent but I would not want City or Real and the rest of Serie A have taken a dump this season which has inflated their dominance.
