Antonio Conte - officially NOT the coach of THFC

Again find myself agreeing with you, we have more depth than last year but seem to use less other than the last two games where players have dropped dead from playing each week so forced our hand.

But as I keep saying there is depth he just decides to not use it

He is doing a good job and I get the WC issues etc, but as I also keep saying, he isn't beyond criticisms

He rotated 6 out today. He’s changed the centre backs and wing backs quite a bit. He’s changed the midfield a reasonable amount too. He’s had next to no options up top with Kulu and Richarlison injured.

I don’t see that he can do too much else to be honest.

But as I say, most came recently because of injuries to PEH, Romero, Kulu and Richi, as I say forced.

He has still failed to integrate other players which means we are more limited in options than we honestly should be.

Today he changed 6 players
That’s the most he has changed all season because a few are injured but some have Jaycee fatigue and can’t be risked
But he still started 3 CBS, 2 defensive mids and a B2B one. A very defensive wing back and one that’s a halfway house
How many players who started had scored for us this season before today? I think it was 3!!! Kane, son and PEH. That’s a Fundamental issue when trying to win games… a lack of goals. So if the team can’t defend well too you are screwed

We won’t 3-4-3 and looked miles better because we had ab extra attacking edge even if it was a player as poor on the ball as Moura

Bissouma has had a few chances and underwhelmed, Spence he obviously views as too green. Who else has he failed to integrate?
Gil
Tanganga over Sanchez
Moura … he has barely played him and even I think he is poor but should get more time in a weakened like up
Doherty and Djed are easy ones who still didn’t get on
Sarr… a forgotten man already

I honestly can’t believe how much stick he’s taking at the moment.

Gil is the only option he’d have had up top id imagine given Moura isn’t fully fit and played last week. Gil has been very hit and miss for us so isn’t reliable. Yeah he was good in midweek and I’d probably have tried him today. But midweek was a game we were in the ascendency against a tiring team.

We won 3-2 today in a game we dominated. I’ve no idea how we were 2 down (well, I guess Sanchez and Emerson explain it). But we won, away from home, in a game we dominated. We’re playing twice a week and struggling for it. We’re third in the league and top of our CL group. And our manager is taking brick off the fan base? We’re losing the run of ourselves.

Based on fleeting appearances but impressed in others which proves my point to an extent.

Gil has looked Sharp whenever coming on and he just doesn't get a sniff and could be a crucial attacking option considering we seem to be lacking now

The point is the bigger picture is we are where we are now because he didn't trust players, he was not dropping Royal till he got sent off, but the issue there is twofold, whilst he has put his trust in his trusted lieutenants they have also often put in 5/10s like Son, Richy, PEH, Sess, Royal etc and people back that he sticks with them whilst saying playing others is too risky.

I am not saying we have huge depth but for weeks on weeks you could predict his line up without any effort and any change recently is only because the wheels fell off of that strategy in terms of injuries and suspensions.

And look I am not saying we have amazing depth but we have what we have available and for me he has to use what he has, there is no help in him going to the press and into interviews continually berating the lack of depth which can only have a negative impact on those available and fans alike who TBH in my instance, when I hear him almost saying "we have no hope" It sucks the enthusiasm out of me for the season.

And TBH thats not stick, its just observations, I keep feeling like I have to write "I like him and rate what he has done" but there are things that grate on me and hence airing them

He is getting stick because this isnt new
Conte gets players in then says he need more
He isn’t playing his own signings
The guy has no excuse
He is choosing not to play moura or Gil yet he was the guy who kept them here when they could have left… because he needed the numbers
That’s daft if you want play them
I’ve followed his career for a long time and his ego is much bigger than managers. But he has earned that bow by winning titles. However everyhere he has managed he has been an utter bell end about using his squad. He claims they are not his players when they are signed on his watch. Thats horrendous for that player and shocking modern day management

Any manager who keeps on picking royal with Sanchez either is blind to stupid
I saw royal kick the ball out of the ground today… never seen that in pro football before even at Bournemouth. I also say royal do a no pool pass which became a clearance midweek
These are players that conte would murder when he was playing yet he picks them week in, week out

PEH and Romero were not injured, or certainly not enough to have missed the Saudi Sportswashing Machine game.
Conte was rotating because of the Sporting game.
He was even quoted on the official site as saying Holberg and Romero were fatigued which might have explained their poor performances against Utd ( at least in Contes mind).

A draw in the CL and foir points from our next twp PL fixtures will see us in a great position for the restart.
There's a lot of strange results because of the WC, there will be after it as well, we are in a good position to capitalise on it.

Yes, but how would it look with the 6 points we spaffed away last week.

I've been holding off in hope that we can't possibly be this bad, but I think it might be best to start looking for his replacement. This can't just be the players.
This is the sort of attitude that means we'll never win fudge all. Did the manager come in and go boom, league title? No, get rid. Rinse and repeat. I actually think spurs fans get all they deserve, fudge all.

Well said.

I knew that if we hadn’t pulled that out tonight, the cries of Juve would’ve been less apocryphal than ever, people would be murmuring Poch’s name (many of the same people who didn’t think he should be backed in his bad run and wanted him turfed). It would’ve been toxic.

Does anyone who is criticizing Conte understand the context of this season? It’s not like it hasn’t been stated enough! If we manage tpo get to Nov 13th still in the top 4 and in CL knock-outs, the man should receive the highest praise!

If Conte were to follow his winning Chelsea formula, this is what he needs.

KEY TAKEAWAYS & TYPES OF PLAYERS NEEDED

Here are some of the essential characteristics that the players need to have in the various positions in order to effectively play 3-4-2-1.

  • The goalkeeper should be good with their feet and capable of playing out from the back as well as going direct to the centre forward or front three at the right moments.
  • The middle centre back should be capable of being the main distributor of the ball. They should have a very solid on-the-ball presence, passing range and positional awareness both in and out of possession.
  • The middle centre back should also be more of the ‘libero’ – free of marking tasks.
  • If playing against a front two, one of the back three always needs to offer support as the other two keep an eye on the movement of the centre forwards. Usually, the sweeper would be the one providing the cover and balance as the outside defenders mark.
  • If one of the outside defenders is a good ball player (e.g. Azpilicueta), one of the defensive midfielders can fill in the gap as they progress forward. This was essential in allowing the Spanish fullback to achieve 4 assists, most of which came from crosses into the box from well inside the opponent’s half.
  • Defenders and central/holding midfielders must have technical ability and be able to control the game from deep.
  • Wing-backs must be good runners and have the ability to get up and down the line with ease. Wingers should also have these characteristics but may be required to have more of an on-the-ball presence than the wing-backs.
  • Centre Forward needs to be able to hold the line all on their own and create passing triangles through their link-up play with the two inverted wingers. They should be good with their back to goal and be capable of holding up the play as the wing-backs make overlapping runs and wingers drift inside.

What do you think we're missing?
