Antonio Conte - officially NOT the coach of THFC

In this situation, we were unlucky. In the future, also I spoke with the club, we have to pay better attention to speak also with the Premier League. When there is this type of situation, one day more, one day less, change totally your life and you can drop points.
On the one hand, he does seem annoyed with our situation compared to the other big clubs, but on the other, it does seem like he talks about a future here at Spurs so maybe he intends to stay on for next season too if everything looks good.

What? Loads of the top players are in their 30s now. I won't bother listing them. Just look at the squads of Real / Barca / Pool / Cheatski. Messi, Ronaldo, Casemeiro, Ronaldo. Come on man.

with the modern game becoming increasing physical and CBs getting pacier, I think its a different situation now for strikers now. shearer and sheringham in their 30's would find it hard against Emirates Marketing Project, pool or chelsea.

as with the comparisons:
  • messi, ronaldo are freaks of nature - don't think i see kane in the same bracket - skills on so different a level that you need experience more than youth to stop them. perisic with his deft feints and searching crosses.
  • casemiro, thiago, modric - if kane wants to retreat to midfield, why not, he's got good vision and fanstastic distribution
just me i know so take it as a minority opinion.

Kane is in the best goal scoring form of his life.

Lewandowski? Benzema?

I'll give you that at the best clubs in the PL there haven't been a lot of older strikers in recent years. Players like Firmino, Lacazette and Aubameyang have had a rather rapid drop in quality around 30 years old (for different reasons, but still). Even Aguero got into his thirties performing at a high level, but not long into his thirties.

I feel quite confident that Kane can keep being very effective. Never relied on pace, never was stronger than most PL centre backs, was never a physical battering ran type.

For me the question is what kind of football do we want to play. If we get a manager that insists on a high pressing, high intensity style fairly consistently I don't think Kane can do that anymore. Definitely not without it massively impacting his energy levels for other aspects of the game, probably with more injuries along with it. Firmino is imo a prime example of where this goes wrong.

As long as we have Conte, or a manager like him who wants to play a more mixed style I think Kane will be fine for several years. His ability on the ball, his passing, finishing and understanding of space shouldn't be impacted much if at all. Keep playing to his strengths, work around age (and injury) related decline and Kane will still be a fantastic player.

Getting high energy players with loads of running in them around him, players like Kulusevski and Richarlison will help too.

Today Kane was outside the box a LOT of the time.
For the first goal it was very noticeable that when Perisic cut back onto his right foot, we had Son AND Kane occupying 3 defenders, leaving Richarlison free to head in.
It ain't rocket science. If you can get all 3 strikers occupying defenders, and potentially someone else steaming in e.g. Kulu or Davies or whoever, you might... er... score a goal.

Nice post-match comment from Conte:

“I’m very happy for Richy. He deserved to have a night like this. I remember when we signed him he said I can’t wait to hear the Champions League music and play in this competition. Not many words but important words for me.
Today, I remembered this and I said to him, ‘Richy, I remembered what you said, this is your chance and you deserved this. Enjoy this and try to do your best’.
He did his best, and he helped us get three points in a difficult game.”

I like the bloke but its all abit Jose at the moment

I said this to a mate earlier. Reminds me of Jose’s time with us when we stopped playing cavalier football, started being extremely negative and fell well out of contention. Our football is stale and yet we have 4 attacking players that would be the envy of most teams. Let’s make the most of them, go and attack teams.

I can understand cautious approach against rivals but not against teams we really ought to be beating.

History and data shows that Conte's performance in Europe is far worse than his performance in domestic leagues. Similar comment I made when he first joined - do not expect success in Europe with Conte.
I guess we also have to reflect on what is success as we are not winning the CL

I think Conte is more risk/loss averse than most of us. Happy enough with a draw in situations where we want to see the team go for the win.
