Cheatski are still scum

Someone with bags of cash who want a project to enhance their image or their business will come in and save the day. In a perfect world they would crash and burn but that never happens.
Their new owners will want success and will spend what it takes to get it.............

Abramovich can’t sell though? So the club needs to go into administration im order to be sold off? Or the gov allows a sale but Then he can’t get the proceeds so why would he sell? I’m a bit out of touch the last couple of days but not sure how he could sell otherwise?

It seems that "the sale" can go through.
Ironically Chelsea will be selling themselves - cough cough.

RA will get no proceeds (or profit - I think it's the former, but might be the latter). Although I'm sure he's already made enough in 20 years.

The impact on RA or Putin - pretty much zero.

Ooohhh, sanctions
(If you didn't read that in Jay from Inbetweeners voice.....)

Hmm. Seems there might be the odd loophole being exploited here. I take it Abramovich is not on any US sanctions list as yet, otherwise there’d be no workarounds that anyone would risk?
Chelsea FC is too high profile for the government here to allow it to go under. When the talk is of oligarchs, it mostly means nothing as no one knows who they are and no one really cares as it means nothing apart from extremely mega-wealthy people getting some kind of come uppance, but a football club going to the wall due to government sanctions is far too visible. No way will this government allow that to happen.
More than happy to be proved wrong, of course. :)

No loopholes - the Govt have literally green lighted (green lit?!) it. Although this could genuinely find a loop hole in their own rules!

RA was sanctioned by the US years ago. Not sure exactly to what extent.

I see. Like a fudging Carabao cup counts and a maternity hospital does not in your family boastathon?

Honestly I was just drunkenly ranting at this stage, hope it didn’t come across as trivialising the severity of the conflict. Human life is more important but I think I was hoping for an easy answer of why Chelsea are actually screwed without doing the research or spending the effort required to understand it myself.

Apologies to @Lilbaz as well as I’m sure without even re-reading my posts I was beyond unreasonable. Need to get a breathalyser on my phone (or just stop drinking)!

We've all been there. Was drunk myself. It was past midnight on a friday night.

If they go into administration they lose points automatically right?

They shouldn't go into administration. They might have to delay a payment or 2. But it's sounding as if a sale will go through. Even if it doesn't the licence can be adjusted to allow them to sell players or even tickets. But it has to be necessary for the survival of the club.

Even if they did go into administration. Sure the prem would take the circumstances into account.

But surely every team that goes into administration has such circumstances, their owners being some kind of criminal.

Mel morris at derby isn't a criminal. Just a local lad who thought he could get his team back into the prem. Just overspent.

The fit and proper test is basically have you got a criminal record.

Spent more money than he actually had, that's fraud right?

Agreed. I’m thoroughly enjoying what’s happening to those classless lottery winning clams but can’t help but be a little sickened by the fact this looks to be driven by optics. Abramovich was a clam in 2003. We all knew it, we all knew he was close to the government there and had used some pretty questionable methods to make his fortune.

He’s no more a clam in the last month than he ever was. If he is an unfit owner now, and he is, he was unfit for the last 20 years and the PL are just showing how limp they are by jumping on a bandwagon. Here’s a tip lads, there are other people who own PL clubs who are just as reprehensible as Abramovich. Maybe do something about them and I’ll take you seriously.
Although I agree with the sentiment of your post, in fairness it is not up to the PL and football authorities in general, to police owners of football clubs. These are business decisions and GHod forbid we bring morality into them. It's up to the club's which shady owners they decide to align themselves with.

The current situation with Abramovich is different for the PL, and not because of any moral stand with the Ukrainian people but because he has been sanctioned by the British Government and his assets frozen.

Don't they have the fit and proper owners test? I get what you're saying and my post could be accused of grandstanding a bit but they've disqualified a guy who is no worse today than he's been for the 20 years he's been here. The likes of Ken Bates and Mike Ashley, like Joe Lewis, will take a deal if its a good one and not give two fudges who is behind it because for them it's just a financial transaction. If the football authorities don't police this, no one will. And you can't rely on the government in this way because the Ukraine situation is a unique one.

The PL's action today felt a bit like the coward who throws in a kick when the bully has already been knocked down by someone else.
