*** OMT - Tottenham Hotspur v Chelscum ***

Thing with Alli was I thought he was excellent against Liverpool but then had another anonymous showing SCBC.

I think he’d go Winks too but with Hojbjerg and Skipp as well I just don’t believe that asks enough questions of them - Moura starting may help peg Alonso back too. Agree Ndombele is truly out of favour and it feels too early to see if he rates Lo Celso.
The advantage of 343 against 352 is unless they are happy to go 3 v 3 at the back their WB has to be switched on to help.

Of course the disadvantage is you have one less in the middle. This can be helped by our wide forward drifting in as our WBs advance.

Of course a lot of the pattern is determined by who has control or majority of possession.

It likely we are going to end up facing 2 types of matches going forward. The teams that sit back against us and teams we counter against (or a more end to end game).

When a team sits back I think the 352 is the route to go. Kane and Son closer and a space for a 10. I'd go Lo Celso at the moment as a potential lock picker. I'd also consider Bergwijn or Moura as a RWB. Against Watford and 2nd half Saints our RWB is constantly parked advanced on the right wing so suits Plus I have full trust in them physically and to put the yards in if they have to run back.

I'd stick with 343 in the other games. I am beginning to want Skipp and Winks as the pivot pairing though.
Yep I think there merit in changing the set up for depending on how much of the ball we expect to have / the starting positions of the opponents defence.
I don’t see Lo Celso as a lock picker though. Pre injury his engine and ball carrying seemed to be his strengths but I’ve always found him underwhelming in the final third. Ndombele has the tools but not the application and Dele would probably link up well with the front two but not necessarily create that much either. Will be intriguing who we end up with for this role.

Lloris
Sanchez Dier/Rodon Davies
Emerson Winks Skipp Reguilon
Bergwijn Son Lucas

Give Kane a rest. Plus I think we'd do better without Kane (even though I think he's looking a lot better again)

Would be surprising to me if it's a midfield two with Winks and Skipp for this one. Think Hojbjerg has been preferred to Winks because of physical presence and ability defensively with tackles, aggression and pressures.

For this game that becomes even more important, particularly if we play a two man midfield.

For me Winks if it's a midfield three, but I think this is a good game for Lucas so perhaps a front three is more likely.

That would be the more cautious and defensive choice I think.

Very difficult to see that midfield support the attack enough.

Kane will get a rest at the weekend against Morecambe. Why rest him today as well?

If Dier is out then I would play Winks in CM as we would need the additional passing ability

I'm just being controversial, but sometimes I think we approach these big games better without our talisman when I think back to the first game v City this season, or Chelsea away (when we actually won! Kane came on as a sub), City away in the CL, Ajax away in the CL.
I'd always say play your best player and he certainly is. But a small part of me is curious to see it without him.

I wish I had watched the champions league final without him in the team that is for sure.

I think he has more chance of being that than Ndombele and Dele (for the reasons you give).
He has an eye for a intricate pass. He ran one of the UEFA home games from the 10 position. And he regular plays the supplier/last pass role for Argentina.
We may need someone completely new, but within the current squad, IF he can stay fit, he has potential imo.

I don’t see him for Argentina but as always be pleased to be wrong if it means someone exceeds my expectations for us!

I assume he played further forward for Betis too as he got a goal in every 3 games for them, for us I’m forever remembering him not quite bending it into the top left corner, regardless of the situation he receives the ball in!

We nearly always line up more cautiously and defensive to what I’d like! Except Liverpool, that was a huge surprise and I thought one of our best performances for a long time. Conte hasn’t lined up the same since, even in positions where we were dominant so maybe that’s why I’m typing on here rather than managing a football team!

I worry that Lukaku will be all out to impress tonight, the whole narrative of his "disloyalty" has almost been set up for him to redeem himself with a brace tonight :-(

If there is one team I really dislike its this lot. I think this will be like the pre season match. We will let them run rings around us and go 2 up by halftime. Second half they will take the foot off the gas, become complacent and will tire. We will fluke a 2-2 draw.
