Steven Bergwijn

Got all the attributes to be a good player ... just needs to get his head down.... OK maybe not get his head down ... but work on aspects of this game.

Bloody hell, another Spurs player taking a knock on international duty. What’s that Stevie, Sonny, Gil and Skipp so far.

Add Romano, Lo Celso, Sanchez and Kane tomorrow, and we're back to square one after our great start. It's sexy's law; anything that can go wrong, will go wrong.

Let's hope we won't have to do without all on that list...

If we do and Rodon remains out...

Doherty/Emerson, Tanganga, Dier, Reguilon; Hojbjerg, Winks, Alli; Moura, Kane, Sessegnon?

Hope we are getting a fortune from insurance

Think again mate....

Clubs are only eligible to claim compensation under the FIFA Club Protection Programme where each of the following conditions are satisfied:

(i) a player suffers a temporary total disablement as a result of an “accident”;

(ii) the accident took place during the “operative time”; and

(iii) the injury prevents the player from playing for more than 28 consecutive days.

We most likely will not get a penny....

Happy to see that he was named on the bench yesterday. It's good to see him back imo and it wouldn't surprise me to see him start on Thursday and get a brace...

Will he sink or swim under Conte? I've always felt he's got good decision-making but had been getting lower and lower on confidence...

if Conte's plan is 3-5-2 I don't know where an out and out winger fits that philosophy - I just asked the same question in the manager thread, as Moura, Bergwjin and Ali are all not obvious fits in a 3-5-2.

Wing back possibly or an alternatively to son

I like the idea of Bergwijn. Just with time I'm struggling to see him really making an impact. He doesn't have thing finishing or even the close control dribbling of Son on the left so I can't ever see him being anything other than a poor substitute. Hopefully I'm wrong and a return of confidence has him bustling past defenders and hitting it into top corners but I'm begining to doubt he's capable.

While RWB seems to suit he's fairly blunt playstyle more I again can't see how he gets ahead of Royal who seems perfectly suited to the role. Have we ever seen Bergwijn's crosses? Can he cross? Does he have a range of deliveries? Will he be able to beat LBs from a standing start? All good questions to find the answers for but I wonder if it makes sense to try and make him for in either role when on paper he doesn't appear half as good as our regular incumbents?

Of course squad depth is important and wanted but I wonder if we might be better suited getting in a ready made WB backup rather than trying to make Bergwijn fit there. Nothwithstanding that Tangana is probably an option at RWB as well and one I think probably works immediately.

Tanganga is more a right sided CB in a back 3 than a RWB if you ask me

100%. Tanganga is not a full back but people seem to want to put him in that box after the City game. At best, he's a defensive RB and that won't work at RWB.

Far more instructive for me was his performance v Palace at CB before he got sent off. He looked excellent. For me, that's his position all day long and in a 3, it could really help him develop in my view.
