Falcao cost Atletico €47m though, then again I think some consortium paid a large chunk of that fee.

They paid 40 rising to 47 based on add ons, iirc. I think 40 is roghly his buy out clause (Euros) which is all that matters pretty much. They are skint, btw according to some reports

I simply feel he wouldn't commit a massive sum to Ade all at once - in case he turns brick, wants out, etc. - perhaps it would be spread over 2-3 years, etc. Performance bonus for example

I'm positive there will be performance bonuses as well, on top of the 5 mill we give him. I know it's an excessive amount, but it probably is the only way to get around the problem of getting him to lower his wage demands to a (barely) acceptable level.

By next week Spurs will have signed, Vertonghen, Sigurdsson and Adebayor with a combined cost of £24m. Only £4m more than Downing cost

11 million quid less than what Liverpool paid for Andy Carroll, who they are now trying to loan out to whoever will take him. :D

Adebayor seems to run in the flanks alot, I wonder if AVB potentially see's Adebayor as a right or left forward?

I actually hope its Moutinho because we are fudged going into the new season without a replacement for Modric

I reckon we've got a replacement in the bag for Modric and it's just a matter of the Modric move going ahead before we bring the new guy in. I reckon this mysterious shocking one may be another thing all together.

On the Modric situation though, I feel we are reaping the benefits of everything Levy has learnt over his years as Chairman. At first the plan was signing experienced players to quickly get us somewhere, but he learnt we couldn't do that. So the plan of young players was put on place. But he's had various lessons to learn since then - in terms of knowing what manager would be good for us and the importance of creating the right circumstances for him. And also, crucially, if you lose quality players you must replace them with quality. I bet he thought that it didn't matter that much losing Berbatov and Keane because Ramos was a super-coach that would make Pav and Campbell perform better anyway. But I feel he's learned that quality must always be replaced, and his manager needs the right sort of quality to be successful.

So I think we'll replace Modric if he does ago without any problems. Before Levy may have haggled too much over a fee for the replacement for example but I think now he will get Moutinho/whoever in because he knows we can't go half a season without them. We are lucky because our chairman has been here for 10 + years now and has learned a lot of lessons. He was always good financially, and putting a good structure in place at the club, but now he's also learned a lot about pure footballing matters. Our rivals have either sugar daddies where money is no object, or at Liverpool they are still learning themselves although made some pretty big mistakes from Carroll/Downing/Henderson and probably won't be as stupid again. Saudi Sportswashing Machine have learned a lot too, and at Arsenal, I'd rate Levy over Kroenke/Gazidis any day of the week.

What was this rumour a couple of pages back that Atletico were actually looking for offers for Falcao?

If that's the case (although it may well not be) then I reckon he would be the big name we would be trying to get in.

Really fudging hope so!

That's not a bad shout actually. Ade tends to drift left and cut in so could well end up playing left inside forward.

Personally i think it is a bad shout. Ade is 28 years of age and from what i've seen has rarely played in that position. So he drops deep and goes wide left during the game....VDV drops deep to the cm positions it didn't look like you were too keen on him starting there?

Surely more a case of Adebayor being pretty poor at carrying the ball forward, as opposed to any other consideration?

I think you will find (like with Davids) that there would be a committment to a signing on bonus, but that bonus would not be paid in full - but relased over the course of the contract. In effect a "wages top up" rather then "Lump sum".

I would imagine, also, that the contract would have clauses coming out of its ass as to when and what its payable

I thought I heard a couple of times during the Euro's that he is going to Bayern ?

My head will explode with laughter if he goes to Bayern, replaces Gomez , scores goals and then people start beating off about him ...using the ever present get out clause "oh . he ,ust have improved over the summer"
