Dele Alli

Dele would be part of my attacking front row with license to primarily attack as a priority, just my opinion. Ntuby would stay close to Dele when going forward.

You would play him as one of the three? In which position and who else comprises the front row?

ATM Son and Kane
Who plays on the left? Son is best there I think but Dele would likely take that space. Is it worth moving Son for Dele?

More to that I think without having the midfield capable of creating the opportunities in the first place Dele still wouldn't perform as he needs the play to already be happening to add his finishing touch.

Maybe Dele - Kane - Son. But it doesn’t have to be set in stone.

I think we all need to accept that Nuno has a preferred 4-3-3 formation that he is going to stick with. We probably should therefore only debate which players go into each of the 4-3-3 positions. So probably pick a team out of this lot:

----------------------------------------------------------------Lloris/Gollini
Royal/Tanganga/Doherty-------Romero/Sanchez------------------Dier/Rodon------------------Regulion/Davies/Sessegnon
----------Lo Celso/Dele/Skipp/Ndomebele-----Hojbjerg/Skipp/Winks---------Lo Celso/Dele/Skipp/Ndombele
-----Moura/Bergwijn/Lo Celso/Clarke---------------Kane/Son---------------Son/Bergwijn/Dele/Clarke/Sessegnon

On present form, if all were fit I'd probably go with those I've marked in bold. If Kane starts to show that he can actually be bothered to play for us and put in some effort then I'd have him in the middle, Son on the left and Bergwijn on the right.

The fact you guys are even discussing the possibility of Sissoko offering similar qualities is incredibly damming. Sissoko was dogbrick as a CM and if your name is mentioned in any sort of comparison you've obviously doing something very, very wrong.

For me Dele as a CM is the definition of mediocre, he was when he played there under Poch, he has been mediocre under Mou and likewise will be under Nuno. He simply does not have the game to offer any significant from midfield. There are so many who talk about him in terms of creativity but that's not his game. His game is to finish moves off instinctively in and around the box. Away from that area his passing range is poor, his vision is average, he loves to dally on the ball and slows everything down. He has no idea about tempo or conducting the play and he shouldn't have too but that's what we need from CM.

These discussions have been down to death over the last 4 years but the proof continues to be in the pudding. He is not the creative passing creative dynamo that so many want him to be.

I think you’ve hit the tickle my balls with a feather. The fact that we are still talking about Alli’s form and where his best position is after 4 years shows there is a problem. If we knew where his best position was and he was still performing to the level he was in 2017 then we wouldn’t be having this discussion.

I think we have a problem with a 433. We lack 3 actual goal threats in the forward line. There should be a player on the right who provides, thrust, creation, directness and importantly goals. We simply do not have that. It makes the 433 fall apart.

The midfield composition is also highly questionable. I'm not a fan of Dele as a CM, I think he is resolutely mediocre in said position and if playing him and Hojberg together it relies on the 3rd man (Ndom/GLC) creating entirely by themselves. We've been there before when we had Eriksen and left all creativity requirements at his doorstop and neither are a patch on him as a pure AM.

In reflection we don't have the squad suited to 433. We don't even have the attacking 3 let alone the fallback options for if a player is unavailable.

Nuno needs to revaluate how he sets up the team until the time at which he can bring in players suited to his system.

Agree re the formation but I’m just not sure Alli deserves a place on form unless by current form we are referring to 2017. He hasn’t been in the England setup for years now either so it’s not just a case of one manager doesn’t fancy him. I just don’t see what brings to the table other than hard work in which case we should just sign James Milner.

We don't really have the squad for much at all at present as we have such little attacking creativity along with a real paucity of goals in the team.

I would play him in the hole.

As I was saying. Alli is a runner, can get into very good advanced positions from the more free box to box role. The kind of positions he thrives in.

Won't control games, won't contribute that much to our buildup play. But if the rest of the players can do enough to control the game and improve our buildup play Alli can get into the final third and pop up with the important moments.

Got an assist, could easily have had another. More goals will come.

Excellent role and position for him, but depends on the rest of the players doing more of what he doesn't do as well.

A 4-3-3 morphing into more of a 4-2-3-1 when in controlled position. Allowing Alli to do his thing. While also getting all that defensive work required in that box to box role in the 4-3-3.

This could be a transformative role and season for Alli. No doubts it can also crash and burn, but to me this is clearly the role for him in this system. Not just that, but this role is made for Alli, this is a role where he could again become a truly top class player.

Still not seeing it from him, great assist last night for the first goal but overall i am not sure he offers enough to be in the side every week.

I cannot see us beyond 4-2-3-1 with the qualities of our players:

----------------------------------------------------------------Lloris/Gollini---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Royal/Tanganga----------------------Romero/Sanchez/Tanganga------------------Dier/Rodon------------------Regulion/Davies/Sessegnon

---------------------------------------------Hojbjerg/John------------------------------------Skipp/Winks-------------------------------------------------

------------------Moura/Bergwijn/Gil------------------------Lo Celso/Dele/Ndombele---------------------------------Son/Gil/Bergwijn------------------

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------Kane/Son/Scarlett----------------------------------------------------------

Meaning we are up the creek without a paddle for:

Holding midfield backup until Sarr comes in (can we get in January? Pleeease)

Right midfield

Striker backup

He's a senior and knows about arsenal. He's not carrying his weight and even Ndomb was having better impact. Its not that difficult to play wide or box to box and he certainly has the tools for it. He just didn't want to do it. So glad he was hocked at half time. We were mu h better after.

He was poor.
PEH was mental. WTF was he up to out there?

PEH is running on empty, imo - mentally, more than physically. He's had, what, 24-36 months of basically non-stop football? And he had to mentally process the Eriksen scare from the summer, too - which no doubt hurt every Danish player in different ways.

I don't blame him. The amount of work he had to put in, alone, just to shore up that midfield under Mourinho - a regression to the mean's only natural.

Dele, though? He sat on his arse for 12 months straight - what excuse does he have for this kind of atrocious listlessness?
