Any doctor who dishes out tax payer pills to lard asses should be struck off yes.
I do not use the bmi index as a gauge. I would prefer to see if someone can talk without being out of breath after running up a couple of flights of stairs.
People in wheelchairs would not have to take this test, they are deserving of medical care, fatties are not.
I have been in hospital you can not get fat off of hospital food. Also the are over worked nurses to check on you.
Do you not care about the nurses? Jesus first you lot do not care about enticing more people to make dangerous journeys. Now you are admitting to not caring about the welfare of our over stretched NHS. Obesity is a massive fiscal weight around the neck of our NHS.
Ironically if you put a massive weight round the neck of all the fatties in this country and dropped them off the side of a boat it would help save the NHS. They would sink so fast it would not matter which side of the channel they were in because the saintly lifeboat people would not get to them quickly enough anyway.
Most importantly, we wouldn't have to look at them any more.

I am being perfectly serious though. Why are we treating fatties and smokers on the NHS? Surely everyone knows both those things are bad for your health.
I can't see treatment being restricted unfortunately because the are to many fatties in this country. Maybe if it was worded correctly and the campaign was well run. Kids dying of cancer in videos while fatties eat junk food hooked up to a diabetes machine. You need to waken up the norms as I call them. Slim people against the fatty menace in our midst.

What about people who drink? Or people who go hiking and hurt themselves? How are you going to decide who gets treated or not? You fukin can't. It's not how health systems function.
It's how (sensible) insurance systems work.

People who to drink to excess, then they forfeit their right to health care. Hiking is good for physical and mental health so if an accident occurs during honest endeavour then full treatment.
I am a man of the people for the people but in a civil society if you want the governments help (we just come out of a 18 month period when they paid us) then you help out the government in return. I will always be on the side of the working class man. Will get drunk myself but I do not expect the NHS to pay for rehab should I injure myself.
Think this yet again goes to show what a superior mindset I have to some of you.

Across the much lauded EU states as well. We have friends in Germany. Might be why the Europeans have a more sensible attitude to drinking then us actually. Never thought about that before but it is probably a factor in it.

Going by your plans, in the event of a serious accident most patients would be dead by the time an assessment was carried out into how deserving they were of treatment.

How would that be any different to someone waiting for a consultation for a medical issue that dies of that medical issue.
I implore you to start showing some compassion and think about our poor over worked doctors and nurses. For the love of GHod man, think about them.
That's why insurance models are better.
The insurance just won't pay out for them and they'll have to foot the bill.

I've always been pro NHS. But I have to say, I am somewhat sympathetic to Scara's arguments now. They are not as whack as they appear 
The NHS has many facets so generalisation is unfair, but in some areas, utilitarian care gives us lowest common denominator care. The NHS isn't really promoting health. It is not proactive. It is only able to function when you get really sick. If you have a mild condition or concern, forget about it. A GP will process you in 15 mins without much true care. That is reserved for people who have more severe issues.
So many good things about the NHS, but it could be so much better too. So much potential to improve it, and make it a true health service rather than a sickness service.

It may not need to be an either-or. As @Libaz points out, for the money the NHS is decent value. If you could bring in some charges maybe similar to how it is in France, you could build on what we have. Wouldn't want to throw the baby with the bathwater. The whole GP setup needs some revisions. Charging £5 to £30 an appointment (unless on benefits) might help, and stop people taking the tinkle, plus improve the level of care. At the moment, you're not a customer, GPs are overworked and forced to act more like civil servants than healthcare workers.
