Harry Kane MBE

Great Wall. If you can keep it for the longer I'd just collect more articles to cover/replace the least appealing at that point in time. So it's continuously upgraded. If you cover instead of replace, you also keep some history. Whatever feelings you have now it will change once we win the league!
Now I have a dilemma, and it is regarding Kane and my garage that I converted into a playroom, Office and sort of bar. My Mrs allowed me (I wear the trousers honest) to put a spurs wall up in there and I spent a few months collecting programmes old and present along with newspaper articles and then put these onto the wall.

Now my dilemma is that Kane clearly features on there a lot, but if he departs us will it be too soon to cover up his face with other spurs stuff, or would you just leave it on there as a permanent painful reminder of him?

I think the answer from most will be to leave him up there, but I just think looking at the wall will hurt so much when I see him lining up in in colours of blue for City. Obviously there are players up there that have left Spurs that I hold close to my heart but they weren't Spurs through and through like Kane is, so this one will hurt the most I think.

Thanks mate.... Strange as I was sure I'd read that Modric thought he had an agreement that he would be allowed to leave for a bigger club in the CL or something like that? I must be mistaken.

Reading through that link I saw the following quote from Modric: 'I wanted to fight for trophies and win titles, and I felt this wouldn’t happen if I stayed at Tottenham. I wanted to move to a more ambitious club.'

Players want to win trophies. The best players want to play for the best clubs so that they can achieve this. Until we change the dynamic at Spurs so that we are considered to be one of those ambitious clubs we will always lose any genuine World class players that we have.
Maybe we change that dynamic by not selling our best players

We get what we deserve. We don't invest, we don't play well, good players leave and good players don't join us unless they have to (stepping stone club) and when they do well they want to leave but we won't let them.

Berbs Carrick modric bale, now kane, rinse and repeat.

Agree on not being able to replace the goals and assists from a CF however apart from some purple patches from Bale, we didnt get much out of our RW or no 10, or even CM last season

So yes, the next CF won't add as much as Kane but if we strengthen other areas then as a team we might be the same

At the moment we're also susceptible to Kane's ankle, and he seems to be now be getting at least 1 injury on them per season

Kane might only have say 4 years left in him, depending on injuries, and we need to strengthen the squad. If we use the cash we get well, I think we can come out of this very well indeed

Maybe we back the manager and genuinely try to compete and not just take a punt and hope that it all works out, because this will happen over and over until we establish ourselves.

But if that best player wants to leave it usually for a reason. To change the dynamic is more than just not letting the player leave once they've realised it's best for their career prospects.

Instead, we need to change the dynamic of the club to the extent they see their future here just like Kane did 3 years ago.

It's the club's stalled progression and actual regression that has lead to him seeing greener pastures elsewhere.

Personally I am off the view that not looking weak and doing what is best for Spurs are not mutually exclusive.

Besides, I think it is in the interest of Spurs not to accept every mediocre bid for a key player just because said player refuses to turn up for training.

And of course, the 'letting the best striker we've ever had go for peanuts (to a rival)' easily follows if the perceived benefits of doing so don't play out.

I didn't even understand his argument because we had all those players he mentioned and none of them won us the competitions he said they would have won besides the CC with Berbatov.

Most of them never even got close to winning anything except for the time we've had Kane.

Now he's not bigger than the club, no player ever is. But let's not start changing history. He's been instrumental in the progress the club has made. Without a striker to score the chances we would never have even gotten close to winning anything, just think back to Harry Redknapp's side that was desperately lacking that quality.

We did not have those players in their prime, not Bale, not Modric and Berbatov did win us a cup. A prime Bale was a fudging level above Kane, a player who could and did change a CL final

Kane has been a great player for us, and played a part in one of the best eras of the club (along with Eriksen, Toby, Jan, Lloris) but he's isn't fudging Messi/Ronaldo and isn't way above THFC, don't get why everyone thinks we are suddenly fudging Leyton Orient tweeting "I can't believe we had this guy"

United and Madrid did everything in their power to get Berbatov, Modric and Bale, Kane faces the same question Eriksen & Toby needed to, why isn't someone doing that for us? why didn't someone do that in my prime?

Bale, Modric and Berbatov were all in there primes with us so I really don't know where you're going with that. They looked between elsewhere and won more elsewhere because they played with better players.

The lack of interest in Kane is somewhat like with Eriksen. He is overpriced, we aren't putting a price on him to sell. We are actively trying to discourage the sale. Kane would be a close to world record fee same with Eriksen 120m plus reported price. Modric and Berbatov were no where no record fees when they were sold. Bale obviously was but that was Real who will pay whatever they need to, to get the player they want.

But maybe the club as a precaution just say stay away until the day2 test is clear?

Tbh it's just a PR smooth over from Kane

Yep, that's possible, but also easily explained.

But yes, it's the club and Kane agreeing to dampen down the speculation, or trying to at least, and give him a way to show up without losing face.

But the dynamic of the club 3 years ago wasn't built on spending big.

We've spent more the last two summers than in a long time and have continued to go backwards.

So the dynamic change should be....spend the money better (good DofF) and get a better manager (hopefully Nuno)

Jesus .. Bale was with Madrid from age 25 - present, in most worlds 26-29 is a players prime and in the case of Bale he had one good season with us, the rest of his top career was with Madrid. Modric moved at 26 and also gave that prime timeframe to Madrid, and he has even gotten better post his prime.

To say we had Bale and Modric at their prime would have been them at 28/29, we didn't ..

Players aren't overpriced, they just need someone who wants them. Jao Felix and Griezmann went for considerably more than City is offering for Kane, re Erisken, Contino went for way more than we would have asked for him. Fact is, as highly as we rated these guys, nobody saw the same value.

No where did I say anything about spending big. I'm not even someone who has ever advocated for that. I've always argued for spending better and earlier, taking more risks with less established players not spending bigger fees.
Don't City?
No I don't think City have worked in the same work Real do. City have never made a world record transfer, Real have multiple. City have rarely even signed superstars, they work pretty much like Chelsea of the 00s, they get the next up and coming guy who is almost certainly going to be a star but just before anyone else and are willing to pay a premium for that player at that stage.
