Harry Kane to Emirates Marketing Project: Pep Guardiola hits out at ‘impossible’ asking price for striker targets

Manchester City are being priced out of the market for a new striker, says Pep Guardiola, which could see them end interest in Harry Kane this summer.

City are looking to replace Sergio Aguero, who left the club at the end of the last season, with Tottenham talisman Kane their no1 target.

Spurs are holding firm on Kane - who valued at north of £150million - and insist he is not for sale, though City tested their resolve with a bid worth £100m plus the option of including City players in the deal.

Borussia Dortmund's Erling Haaland is another widely linked with moves across Europe, though is available for a cut-price fee of around £75m next summer.

An exasperated Guardiola says it is “impossible” for City to buy a striker this summer, with the manager ready to stick with what he has.

"At the prices (quoted) we are not going to buy any strikers,” Guardiola told Catalan network TV3. “It is impossible, we cannot afford it.

"All clubs are struggling financially, we are not an exception. We have Gabriel (Jesus) and Ferran (Torres) who have been incredible in this position.

"We have young players in the academy and we play many times with a false nine. There is more of a chance we aren't going to buy a striker for next season."

They've spent on average £210m on new players every year the past six seasons, so a £150m Kane + random £60m player would be business as usual for the lottery winners. :rolleyes: #justiceforpep

It was a terrible pen but the one he missed at Anfield a few years ago in the 2-2 was much worse. He scores that and we’d have won. That said, he showed balls of steel to take the injury time pen to salvage a draw.

As for Pep, is he looking for sympathy? fudge off with your bottomless pit of money. City can afford 150m. You don’t want to pay, fudge off.

Hopefully Kane sees that as well - not that interested to offer a realistic amount to secure his transfer.

...and more importantly, the England squad look like they have some of the spirit of a club squad, which again makes me think that this tournament might help him stay at Spurs, especially if we win it
 
Don't think I've ever seen him so emotional after a game, he's leagues above any other player in the squad. Best playmaker and best scorer, all our best chances had him involved last night.
 
He's going to have a tough game in the final, in terms of trying to score. Those Italian defenders will deal quite well with his style of play. I think he'll get more joy by dropping deep and passing well to his other creative teammates.
That said, he's one of the best in the world, so even against top-notch defences, he should have opportunities.

I agree. He's going to have to mix it up (which is handy as he's great at doing just that). Just playing directly up against those wily old fixes at the back for Italy will play into their hands. The movement of the attacking core looks to be improving with every game though.

I just hope the lack of experience of some of our team doesn't show itself in this game, especially given the dark arts Italy will employ.

Avoid conceeding early at all costs. If Italy scores first, that's the recipie for a very frustrating evening for England.
 
'I never doubted Harry for one moment'

England 2-1 Denmark

Former England striker Teddy Sheringham said he never doubted current Three Lions number nine Harry Kane.

Kane failed to score in England's three group games but has now scored four goals in three knockout matches.

"First of all I never doubted Harry for one moment," he told talkSPORT.

"He is the leader, he knows he is good and it is very hard to tell people in the newspapers 'yeah I'm good, I am the best centre-forward in the world' without being a flash git.

"But he is saying it in a way where he knows he is good, in fact he is better than that, he is great, and he knew it would come. And very much like Alan Shearer when we were in Euro 96.

"He was the best centre-forward, you knew he would play and you can't take him out because if half a chance comes on the pitch, you want him there."

Not sure if that is how players minds work sadly. In his head if he wants to leave and he has made his mind up then that’s all he will care about it. This is just pure BS from Pep trying to save a few quid. Most (if not all) clubs act like it’s a buyers market when they want to sign someone even though it is isn’t. It’s a sellers market. In my mind I have accepted Kane will leave eventually but not this summer. I think we will get at least one more season.
