The competition will lose all its prestige and be seen as a 'best of the rest' Cup. That being said I'd rather we were in that.
So what ? They are all better sides than us. It’s all one big nonsense.

I’m trying to think what the palatable alternative is:
Independence from UEFA to negotiate global tv deal and use own platforms
Less teams but more guaranteed high profile matches
More teams from England
Revenue distributed by fan base as well as results
Guaranteed participation for the G12
Guaranteed participation is the big sticking point for most, but if the top 6 in Prem, 3 in la Liga, 3 in Serie A plus 1 each from other major leagues that probably guarantees the same teams 90% of the time?
Obviously we would be one of the teams at the biggest risk of missing out.

It would seriously limit mobility at the top of the pyramid. Had this been put in place 10-15 years ago I think the chances of us getting into the CL several years in a row, getting to a CL final, being title challengers at times, perhaps even the new stadium, would be a lot less likely.
Those things were hard enough already. Mobility at the top has been going down for years. This would be a massive leap in that same direction. For clubs just below us in the hierarchy (not the current league table) this would be a massive blow to their ambitions short and long term.
Perhaps not quite a glass ceiling for the clubs outside it, but as close as you're going to get. If that's worthy of "hysterical" reactions or not is up to everyone to decide for themselves.

It’s not just the accounts, in this case I think it’s the global fan base. Rationale being more people will tune in to watch these teams which attracts the bigger tv money and sponsorships. I don’t like it but I think La Liga distributes it’s tv money in this way but the Prem is equal, perhaps swayed by number of games shown and league placings but a minimum number of games shown for all.
I know it’s not exactly the same but BBC have shown a ridiculous number of consecutive United FA cup games, which in turn gives them more revenue. Not particularly fair on the rest of the league either.

I get that, but the Deloitte chart quoted above has us above Chelsea and Juve, does that make us more successful than them?

The difference would be our path over the last 5-10 years. Qualifying gets you a financial boost, and one that is then taken away from one of your direct league rivals. That gives you the opportunity to build on that do repeat the performance the next season.
If Leicester gets in, gets the money, but all the other 6 funding teams on the PL still gets it, and gets it every year, building that over time gets increasingly difficult.
Keeping the best players will become more difficult. Financially, but also in terms of the competition.
This depends somewhat on how well teams have to do to get in. But assuming 5 teams qualify from all of Europe each year getting in as a qualifyer will be difficult, doing it repeatedly will probably be harder than successive top four finishes is now. And 6 of your competitors gets that financial benefit every year.
Wouldn't want to be the ones near the top, but left out.

exactly. But as fans, does it give you more excitement that we might win a cup final on Sunday or that, one day we might move up a spot or two in the financial tablke?

Agreed, but it's a step further down the current path rather than a change of direction imo.

Most of the tradionalists that are against it that I can see are the boys day out for a drink and a knees up. Little to do with actual football.
There has been no suggestions of of the mad rule changes or variations that have been imposed on cricket or are trying to be imposed on golf to "widen their appeal".
It's a dilution of the lads culture they are railing against.
