European Super League - Dead on arrival

Not for me i am afraid to say, i am a old fart i know but i have seen enough changes to our game over the years that have ruined what used to be the best sport around. Played it into my 40s and worked in it for many years, traveled all over this and many countrys abroad watching Spurs and to be real honest my love is fading for it. We shall see i guess but i really hope that our club grow some balls and pull out of Derp

The game hasn't changed much, how it is consumed has changed radically.
And it had to.

The more I listen to Gary neville the more I'm for it.
Closed shop, no relegation, can you imagine the melt down if utd or Liverpool were on the verge of relegation.

liverpool who had the rules of CL qualification changed when they dropped out of the top 4

United who quit the fa cup to play in the club World Cup

Of course not but then again i do not think anyone could be confident that we will not survive.

Fair enough, but our financial position will be undoubtedly worse if we don't participate, and I'd rather watch us in the ESL than looking on enviously from the outside whilst we die a slow death in the PL. In my view, the ESL is happening and we're in or out; the status quo, which might have been a better option, isn't an option. I think this has gone too far to be reversible

This esl is disgusting and sickening. When football started again after the first lockdown it was such a relief to so many of us. A beacon of joy (and pain) in a dark and scary landscape. A reminder of past times. When the fans came back briefly for the nld and the players went over to them at the end of the game it was a beautiful sight. And these morally bankrupt club owners, greedily grabbing at more money, ignoring the historical significance of these local (and global) institutions, are devoid of empathy.
We the fans are commodities to be mined yet further for our cash. The greed they are showing is gross and cruel. And that our club is part of this is devastating. Shame on all of them. Shame.

You are probably right about that, i hope you are not though.

A platform with a global audience would probably make sense, particularly if the rights are being sold at pace

Good, hopefully they will package it better.
Season ticket for your team, and a play off package.
Not like sky wanting £60 a month for their choice of matches.

Ceferin was particularly critical of Manchester United executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward and Juventus chairman Andrea Agnelli, who have both stepped down from their roles at Uefa.
Agnelli was also a long-time president of the European Club Association (ECA), from which all 12 clubs involved in the ESL have resigned.
"He's probably one of the biggest disappointments, or the biggest disappointment of all," said Ceferin. "I don't want to be too personal. But the fact is that I've never seen a person that would lie so many times, so persistently that he did was unbelievable. I spoke with him also on Saturday afternoon. He said, 'These are all only rumours. Don't worry, nothing is going on'. And then he said, 'I'll call you in one hour'. And he turned off the phone."

On Woodward, Ceferin added: "I didn't have much contact with him but he called me last Thursday in the evening saying that he's very satisfied with the [Champions League] reforms, that he fully supports the reforms, and that the only thing he would like to speak about is about financial fair play. And obviously he already signed something else."

Who'd have expected such duplicity in the corridors of power.
After he consults with his lawyers, he may have to change tune about what can actually be done.

How old are you? you must be on a wind up or very young ( and i doubt that).

The PL I am guessing? Games being played at times for TV audiences? Come on you can't be that old you've forgotten! Just genuinely interested. Change and renewal are generally a good thing, nothing ever stays the same. Though in this instance I am not so sure. The ESL seems flawed in a number of ways, and I would guess that it would only last a couple of years anyway, if the clubs could push it through. After that, I think we'd revert back to the traditional model, but maybe with the CL being more elite once again.

Meeting tomorrow between the other 14 clubs apparently.

Don't you only need a vote of 14 to get something passed?

The proposal is that each club gets four (I think) games a season to exclusively stream on their channels

Its great noise, but its an empty threat. I'd like to see FIFA and UEFA negotiate TV rights for World Cups and Euros without the best players; values would fall substantially. I struggle to see what cards either holds here, same with the FA, same with the PL

Yep, same problem FA has

- Already signed tv rights deals owners would argue some kind of fair expectation of the teams/players that would participate.

So not only would they be fudged from a viewership perspective (who would watch Euro B team comp?), they would be open to legal lawsuits from both the players/teams and sponsors?

UEFA could get sued out of existence on this one.
