Jose Mourinho - SACKED

Question. Do you believe Jose Mourinho was brought in as a results-driven manager who would deliver quick success? Or as a trophy-winning manager who would get a few seasons to build a trophy-winning team? Answers on a laptop screen...

To get enough results for immediate top 4, and to progress far enough in cups to make a final this season and win one within 2 seasons.

Top 4 and a final would have done most this season.

By the end of next season I’d have hoped for some silverware.

both, we'd take another step up and build towards total global domination, Premier League's, European Cups, driver and constructors championships, the Super Bowl

I’ve been down on Jose big time since the Liverpool game. Even when we were top, I wasn’t enjoying the football. I’m not a fan and I’ve come to the conclusion he is a mistake.

But we’ll beat West Ham this weekend and we’re about to go on a run of results. I’ve seen enough over the last week to convince me. If I’m wrong, I’ll build a shrine to the brilliance of Sissoko out my back garden.

That’s a brave statement to make. At least you won’t need to go too deep for the foundations of the shrine

Quick success. I dont think anyone would have believed he'd be here for a 'few seasons'

Agree with your first line, but not the second. West Ham away is a tough game given our respective forms (we've lost 4 out of our last 5 league games). I think a bad loss at the weekend (bad in terms of performance) then I could see Levy pulling the trigger. A narrow defeta or something with some fight and he's probably ok.

In which case, if Jose does limp past the weekend, then he has the upside of Burnley and Palace at home in the next two PL games follwed by Arsenal away. Another way of looking at those games is that they wouldnt be a bad intro for a new guy

Sacking Jose will cost us 40 million apparently, I doubt Levy will pay that

Nah. If he's on £15m p.a. then its about £25m (being £15 * 1.66667 seasons).

However, the new guy will probably earn half what Jose is on so between now and when Jose's contract would have expired so we'd save £7.5m p.a. meaning the net cost between now and the 3rd anniversary of Jose's contract will be more like £13m - £14m.

How would that work

Lets just take the 25 million figure

That gets paid whatever and however, then you would be paying another manager on top.

I dont see how the net would be less?

You've also to pay off his staff which will be another considerable amount that gets it closer (no idea how close) to the 40m being mentioned

So we will have budgeted to pay Jose £15 p.a. from now til the end of his contract - thats another £25m from here roughly. Thats the baseline

If we sack Jose, and to @billyiddo's point lets assume the wrost case and we have to pay him out fully for his contract, then
- we need to pay Jose that £25m
- then assume we hire a new guy on half the amount - so he'd earn roughly £12.5m before the point at which Jose's deal would have run to
- so our total cost is £37.5m

So the net cost for sacking Jose from now til Nov-22 is £37.5m - £25m = £12.5m worse that we have budgeted for spending on managers over that period (we're obviously still paying Jose what he would have earned, but its not a £25m hit, its a £12.5m hit)

I'd agree, but he's way too early in his managerial career. They took some hammerings early on, he adapted, did the basics, looks like he may pull it off.

His next step is a midtable side before he can be considered.

Yes, he's not in a vastly different place to Poch when he arrived.

IMO we dont want a Benitez/Jose type next but equally not a Parker - somewhere in between!

I'll send over the stuff leftover from my Roberto Soldado shrine from a few years back.
