AVB & Spurs Tactics and Formations discussion thread

I agree with having a thread like this, where all 'tactics talk' can just be dumped. There's a few on here who obviously think their scientific hyper-analysis of football is incredibly interesting to read. It isn't. It's mind-numbingly dull and boring, just as I'd turn off from anyone discussing the history of trains or which pile makes for perfect carpet.

I mean, do any of you armchair experts actually have any formal coaching qualifications anyway? Just wondering, as - if you don't - then it's quite a reasonable assumption to suggest that you may actually all be talking out of your self-important arses.

Redknapp didn't have any. Why would the people discussion Redknapp's tactics feel the need to have some?

Whatever makes you happy. I find discussions a pretty decent way of learning new things, that includes topics I'm not an expert in. Seems to be quite a few similar minded people on this forum. I don't quite understand why you need to point out that something others find interesting is boring to you and accompany that with slight insults when you could so easily just scroll past it.

It's to educate you, which - as it seems - you enjoy a lot, and you come on to football forums to feed your appetite.

So, just take it on board, and enjoy the free lesson; you learnt something new today.

Wow, thanks. People in the world have different interests, who would have thunk it...

Your insight was greatly appreciated.

Sheikh if this tactical talk bores you sooooo much how about you update the weather thread. Lots of people (including myself) find that thread interesting and sure beats you moaning about tactics.

I hope there's some qualified meteorologists in there.

Is it suddenly unanimously agreed that Rafa is no longer good enough for us and that AVB won't like him or he is off to Hamburg or wherever?

Majority seem to have ruled that he won't fit into AVB's system...

To be honest I can certainly see that line up thinking, actually it's probably logical. But I've grown fond of Rafa at Spurs. Would be sad to lose him, he is capable of things no one else in the squad is but admittedly can be a liability. Anyway there is a separate VDV thread I see.

Interestingly a journalist close to Swansea was talking to Danny Kelly on talksport about sigursson and was asked what he would bring to a top-six team, the guy ran through the usual goal/set piece threat but then said his work rate and stamina were key to his game - he buys into the high pressing style we saw from Spain in the euros and for me this stood out - sigurdsson didn't seem to be on our radar until recently and suddenly we seem to have jumped on a deal to Liverpool that seemed all but done and stolen it last minute. I saw mostly only highlights of him last season but if this pressing game thing is right then I think it's probably avb told levy he wanted him early on in discussions during the last week or two - I can see him fitting perfectly into his system - high pressing wining the, ball high up the pitch and using his finishing ability to devastating effect!

I dont think so.

AVb is about structure, and presumably that structure breeding consistency.

Gomes, as much as I love him, is erratic and would be a big fat monkey wrench in the idea of organisation and structure!

I can see VDV playing for AVB - he actually plays a high pressing game very effectively and is used to playing 4-3-3 from his time at Ajax. If anything Modric might be the one that doesn't fit as avb likes 3 strong pressing midfielders that recycle possession to an explosive front 3 very much like Portugal in the euros. Modric isn't particularly good at winning the ball back or pressing as a team.

re VdV - was the roaming we saw from him his natural style or was he given a free role under Redknapp ? has he always played like this prior to Spurs - can we expect him to change that approach if asked ?
