OOMT - Tottenham vs Emirates Marketing Project

Id be more inclined to give him a pass if he didn’t get bullied so frequently. He’s too weak to play CB. Actually had a good game but like Dier has too many mistakes in him

In general yes i agree but wrt the game at hand he's at the back of the queue for complaints imo

Am i the only one thinking Sanchez is being harshly done for the goal? Barged off the ball mid stride

would you accept a free kick to Gundogan if the nudge had gone the other way? I would not!

Sanchez is a defender, not a figure skater!! He should be stronger then that!!

I’ve wondered for a good year if I’ve over rated a lot of our squad and I can’t see anything but yes as the answer. I’m embarrassed that I thought Poch going (as much as I loved him) would help the squad realise their full potential. The fact is the real top quality has gone and we are left with a lot of bang average. Verts not replaced,Dembele irreplaceable (NDombele is nowhere near his dominance yet, despite his ability), Eriksen replacement nowhere to be seen.
Every game I’m looking at what Mourinho can do to change things and it’s uninspiring - he either has Sissoko, Moura and Lamela starting because the others have been so poor or they are the players we have to turn to on the bench if things aren’t working. Dele hasn’t been the player he can be for a couple of years, maybe he can come back to form with time but not holding out hope. Bale just can’t be relied upon, Davies is ok but such a come down in quality from Reguilon and out CBS are to be polite inadequate. The only bright spots are Sess and Skipp out on loan who could genuinely challenge for first team spots next year the way things are. This squad needs a lot of work.....
Great post

I am a Jose fan and was happy that if someone had to replace Poch it was him. I even thought we could win the title under him. But there have been too many games like today where we say ah well it's City don't expect anything. Liverpool have doubled us despite clearly being a shadow of last season's team. The team is struggling much of that is on Jose. This is not all on the squad.
The games we sat deep against lower teams, went into our shells when leading, they are on Jose. The recent results have been down to individual errors more than the setup.
I'm not a Jose fan, but I will give him credit for the changes he's made in the last few games and as I said, it's the players letting him down.
A couple of good signings in key positions during the summer will make a huge difference to the team.

Many of whom wouldn't give the previous manager the same benefit of the doubt.

Correct. We need a manager who will make average players into good players, whether through coaching or putting them into a settled system. We won't spend £50m - £60m on each player

I'm not saying I know who that manager is, but Jose hasn't yet shown an ability to make that many players better - Aurier being the main exception

Looked like shoulder to shoulder to me... was understandable for Sanchez to get outmuscled by likes of Deeney or Rondon but not Gundogan.

Yep
A leader in defence
A permanent CF (even if it’s Vinny)
Replace at least one of the WF with a pacey player happy to play wide
A keeper please even if it’s to take over eventually

I think to look at it as only individual errors that cost us goals misses the point. City forced errors and we didn't have a robust enough system to resist them.

Always frustrating to lose. But I liked the balance today between attack and defense. With fresher players, a different ref...

Poch and Mourinho face/d the same challenge. How do you get a stable side from some average players? It is clear that the likes of Davies, Sanchez, Sissoko, Moura, Lamela even they are not going to be in the team all season. In short they are squad players. Maybe Sanchez could mature, at 24 he's not that old for a CB. Could make a case for Lamela and Moura too. But you get the point, Mourinho has to try and build a steady team from a lot of good, but not amazing players.

For me, he needs to upgrade Davies. Its like carrying a player having him on. He's ok (average) defensively and offers nothing going forward. Play a Sessengon into the team at LB or play Bale there. At CB and RB we have to build some consistency. Sure rotate, but let the players have 10 games in a row or whatever before rotating. These are not stellar confident players, they all need boosting up and a run of games to show their promise.

If Mourinho can elevate some of these squad players, then we have a core of quality to build around. Kane, Son, Hojbjerg, Ndombele, and even Dier, Lloris and Aurier. Today was encouraging, but how does Mourinho get a confident settled team out of a lot of similar level non-world beating players? That will be the key.

Problem is with our financial resources, a couple of those (at least) need to be £10m players who we improve

Agree with this but I think we need to try and get a new keeper, I’d like Pope but would settle for any number 1 in the lower prem except the lad at Sheffield United. If we can get someone like Bissouma as an upgrade on WinksSissoko, possible funded by Lo Celso unless he starts playing again and the combined wages ana exits of Bale Moura and Lamela could find a physical RWF, maybe who can help cover for Kane but actually play regularly too.

Agree about CM and RWF. The RWF has annoyed me since Poch days. Not sure how that Sarr has faired at Watford but he run us ragged last season. I prefer a left footer out there tho.

A long kickout and the defender not heading the ball away is forcing an error? If that's forcing an error we really are fudged

The squads had a lot of work to it since the end of the Poch era, that's the worrying thing - we shouldn't be sat here still talking about that 160m net spent in two summer windows, we should be moving on and i say that as someine who argued against you at the time and was of the opinion we needed the rebuild

When I suggested evans to replace Toby (as Toby was surely being signed for £25m I was laughed at...
I’ve been suggesting Tarkowski in the transfer thread
Mings would be too expensive for what we would get firm him IMO
Perreeira we wanted but he got badly injured and now is a £50m player

For CB I feel we need to swerve another youngster and we need to swerve a hype player from another league. A Prem player with a minimum of 80/100 games has to be the remit. So JT works.

Pereira 2 years left in June. I’d hope £30m would be enough.
