Next Manager?

It has it's relevance somewhere I'm sure but again not to any point I'm discussing?

You brought up the points improvement that Jose had overseen - i tried to show you it was an improvement on what was a brick half of a season in an attempt to spell out thst 4 points better off than a brick performance doesn't mean you've done well - i thought it was pretty clear?
But most teams haven’t had great halves a season this time despite the thought that they have
Leicester being a good example.
They had a blinding season last season by all accounts, and yet have less points this season. They finished above us last season too
So did Chelsea.,, there way down
So did Liverpool.. there way down
City are slightly up, united are way up and we could be 6 points up like for like after tomorrow
I mean you don’t have to like it but how else do we compare an improvement?
There used to be someone who did a like for on games, that would be a great thing to see.

I have just looked to see how Poch did in his first half a season to give a like for like
Won 9, drawn 4, lost 6 so 31 points in a session when he started the rebuild from previous managers
At the end of that season we had 64 points
If you add Jose’s last 19 from last season and the first 19 from this we get 63 points so he is behind there
I mean does that show anything?
what we do now is Poch progressed the squad and team more and more the longer he was here. His style of play settled in season 2 and by season 3 we were arguably at our peak

I guess for me it’s a case of kick the guy for brick football
Kick him for the team defining badly as he has to be held to account for the stupidity of the players
Dig him opt for his treatment of some players (he has frozen out Rose who the fans have forgotten, just like Poch did with a few to get rid)
The guy earns a fortune so you can say he should do more
He sometimes has his shirt pulled out under his coat so he can look scruffy... that deserves a dig
I don’t think you can argue he has spent loads of money on players
I don’t think you can argue the team hasn’t improved, unless the table is lying so far
I’m happy to hear other benchmarks and measures though
Like I said above the game to game comparison would be good

Like i said, i don't care what other teams are doing it has no revelance to what was being discussed.

And I think it's best we leave it there for the night mate...

I think it does this season. The highly unusual circumstances are affecting every team. There is little consistency for anyone, and certainly no team is setting the league on fire - not even those that have spent hundreds of millions more than us.

Everyone is having to cope with, and adapt their game, to playing every 3-4 days.

Not sure how much the current situation is affecting teams but I do believe it is having an effect so this can not just be ignored. I though don't think it can be used as an excuse for our current troubled state.

I don't think the numbers from the other teams, that Bedford posted a page or two back, actually do his argument any favours tbh

If others are making the argument that we shouldn't look back on last season in comparison to plot progress because of the covid situation then i can see that logic tbf

I don’t even think the current situations effect is that important
I’m just interested in how else you would compare improvement? surely results and the table are the two metrics.
Otherwise it just comes down to opinions and opinions aren’t qualified otherwise we we would have to say pundits are experts as they are paid for their opinions

Is all correct.
Pundits are perceived by some to be "experts" but that in my opinion is just part of the entertainment industry and should not be taken at all too seriously. It is just a bit of frivolous fun.

Sorry for the formatting

we’re up on points like for like by 5
Win today and we’re 6 points up like for like compared to last season table and would be 10 points up like for like

I know it’s all doom and gloom when you watch us play. The football isn’t pretty but the results so far over half a season are actually an improvement. And to counter the brick half a season under Poch argument I used the like for likes

Again happy to look at other comparisons for context

The like for likes will still include the brick games at the start of the season though mate, bloody hell :D

The 'improvement' is just us correcting the poor form we had at the start of last season.

They also include the brick games in the second half of the season too
We had poor form all last season
We had one decent spell post Jose and one at the end of the lockdown return
That’s it
Everything else was meh...

Ok, so with that in mind then, have we really seen a significant/impressive improvement? If the reference point is poor form and meh - i would suggest not

Ok @billyiddo I’ve done a quick check of the ones that Jose was manager this season and a Poch last (Poch next to it)
And ones that were Jose both games

so 3 games are like for like under Poch. We’re only 1 point better off (I had Saudi Sportswashing Machine as +3 in error)
All the rest are Jose last season vs this season. We’re back to being 4 points better off like for like

What is the reference point then?
Arguably the lesser teams have improved (hence why the table is tighter and teams like villa, west ham and Everton are chasing CL)
I know no Spurs fan wants to see it but we are actually doing better even if you only look at Jose like for like

The season has turned into an absolute car crash but 6 weeks ago it looked like we'd walk the league.

I think as soon as the players realised this they shat themselves and pushed the eject button as that was the easy way out.

no manager can do much with this lot.
lots of critical changes needed and i feel it would be mire constructive discussing about replacing fan favourites and square pegs, orour medical and fitness teams who never have an empty schedule etc...things that the next manager would still have to deal with.
