Coronavirus

What is galling is we saw the data in late summer autumn of cases rising. I posted dramatic hospital admission rises on here. I thought the government would react to it and learning lessons from the first wave, act fast to catch it quickly.

What transpired seemed to show a government who thought they could go down a Swedish route of letting the virus run free, while managing the impact on the NHS. Now we know this was a mistake. Acting swiftly as cases rise exponentially would have saved lives, the economy and this government’s reputation. Instead, while people on here could see the best course of action, our government could not. It is hard to conclude anything other than we have a pretty incompetent government in charge.

If the fight is between two forms of oppression, I'll take the lesser.

If it's between oppression and a virus, I'll take the latter.

It is liberation from a virus we’re talking about.

Your ideological position doesn’t stack up because people end up with less freedom as a result. Just as Britain would have ended up with less freedom had it not imposed stringent rules on war time populations. Something you’d condemn if you simply followed your ideology without thinking.

This is why his position is BS. Freedom blah blah blah is all he has left now that we know herd immunity was BS

Says the man living in a country in its third lockdown, with no end in sight.

Meanwhile, those in Australia, NZ, Taiwan, South Korea, even China, crack on with their very near to normal lives.
Having given over any shred of freedom to their govts.

We don't need liberating from a virus, we just need to get on with life.

Yes, absolutely. There's no cost too high to stay free of authoritarian rule (which leads us neatly to your point about wars we've fought against such tyranny).

I'm sure the economy would look great if we'd just adopt the methods used in China, but people won't and shouldn't live like that.

One man's "authoritarian" in this context is another man's "understanding what's necessary to do the right fudging thing and taking charge as opposed to arsing about on some cack-handed to remain a "friend" to everyone" - or "doing your fudging job at a time of huge crisis". You're a big fan of content, yet you are trying to compare a world health crisis, and the necessary actions to see through it, with the dictatorial rule of China, etc. Of course, it's a relatively moot point as Johnson is such a giant pussy he wouldn't ever get close to being "authoritarian", in fact he exudes as much "authority" as an Etonian Wurzel Gummidge!

Yes, I must say Awesome Dawson was certainly struggling with his freedom a couple of weeks back when he toddled off for a celebratory bar-b-que and some beers, as he was before that when he took in a bit of cricket...hahahahahaha, tell you what mate, if that's "giving over any shred of freedom to a gvmt" I'll sign up for it.

The biggest laugh? You actually "think" you're truly "free" right now! If you want to get practical, unless you're off the grid, you're someone's manipulatable property. Your "freedom" is framed not literal. Again, one for the philosopher's corner, but unless you don't engage in e-communication, commerce or societal systems such as banking, then your freedom is compromised to the degree that you'd absolutely fudging fail without these elements in your life. As would I. As would most people on this forum.
