Apparently the defender search is all about someone who is comfortable being a left sided centre back. Dier can do it but sanchez and toby less so. Its why rudiger was even considered but he is going to psg.

Is the beast guy from SK comfortable doing it? And even if the burnely guy is, we wont spend 50m on him.

Tanganga can even do the left sided centre back, so we have 4 of which 2 can do left side, so the need really isnt great unless they are of real quality and can play left side.

Hence the skriniar interest and why if that doesnt happen, dont expect anything else to happen either.
 
I can't help thinking we're a body short at CB at the moment. Tanganga was great last year but young players are often up and down in terms of form and we will have **** loads of games this year, as the season started later than usual too, making them more compressed.

OK, Davies can cover CB a bit but without replacing Jan and just having the 4, including Tanganga, just feels light. Agree though that we won't just sign someone for the sake of it

Moving swiftly back to the pertinent discussion, it seems odd but I'm quite happy either way. If we don't sign Milan or another defendery type we are perhaps placing more hope on Japhet for the season. If we go back three Davies could step up as the LCB too now we've got Regiloiuniounin (?)

Getting one or two solid CB's in now, and we're looking at a seriously competitive squar (barring an onslaught of injuries). Would love it if we went all out and got someone like Skriniar og Demiral in.

Really positive about the squad (especially attack wise) with the exception of CB’s. Still not sure why Toby isn’t first choice. And what Sanchez has done to get ahead of him. The CB’s will be our Achilles heel just as it was for Liverpool before Van Dijk

Other than pace I don’t see what attributes Sanchez has. Gets outmuscled, susceptible to long balls over the top, poor passer, average decision making. Literally had one excellent season followed by two seasons where he’s stalled. I think he looked better because teams gave us more respect a few years ago and perhaps teams didn’t know much about him. Now they know he’s poor on the ball he gets targeted.

The other options are Dier, a youngster, someone old and slow or a left back...

Jose seems to have Dier as his no.1 so perfectly sensible to have a pacier option as his partner.

I'd go Toby + Sanchez myself but any pairing is going to poor as none of our options are that good

I guess we'll just have to outscore teams, like we did with Manure, Maccabi, and Soton (and Saudi Sportswashing Machine, if anything managed to go in - we had a ridiculous xG in that match).

We have the firepower to do that and I'll take it anytime over boring Jose 1-0 wins.
 
If we can afford this guy we should bring him in.

Up until the sending off today, both defences looked poor. It's certainly looking our iffy area, and although there may be some improvement in Dier or Sanchez I'd like another guy in to have a look at especially as his preferred position is LCB. If he turned out 'Vidic like' it could really solidify our defence, which when you consider the state of most teams defences could give us an edge.

I would for Toby + Dier I accept their limitations when it comes to pace. Long term we need at least two CB’s but one for now would be great.

Note that Skriniar is slow but has good passing skills.
