Harry Kane MBE

I’ve never seen it work in the prem
And partay is class and start for any team over here IMO
You could argue that Leicester play the nearest to it - they have Ndidi who was their best player up until the break but their worth comes from their full backs as much as anyone
That is what we need. A class defensive midfielder. Until we sign one we're stuck with having to play two players there and massively sacrifice our attacking threat. When Man Utd upped the pace after about 30 minutes we couldn't get our of our own half. We would be forced either to hit it long and know that it would come straight back or one of our players would be forced to try to have to dribble and beat a player in our own half (both Aurier and Sissoko tried this and lost the ball in dangerous positions).

I’d argue that united offered nothing though despite upping the pace
And they played 2 DMs too don’t forget
Their change came with attacking subs as changes in tactics

Adding a better right back makes us marginally better defensively on our right hand side. That doesn't go anywhere near solving our problems. Aarons is an example I have seen given by many people of a player that would improve us. The difference would be negligible IMO. Man Utd still had an XG of something like 1.8 even with us completely sacrificing our own attacking threat, playing very deep, with two players detailed to be defensive midfielders.
United has 2 DMs too - they reminded me of us under Poch, with all huff and puff but a lack of real quality
Look at the change when Lo Celso came on and we could pass forward better
Lamela IMO hindered us so much (our full backs didn’t)

I'd flog Lamela this summer if there's any takers - just don't need him, particularly in an environment when we need to raise all the cash we can and given his value will only decrease from here. If we sign a back-up CF then we probably have enough numbers in attacking positions without him:

CF (2 needed): Kane + new back-up
No 10 (2 needed): Dele and Ndombele
Wide forwards (4 needed): Son, Bergwijn, Moura + Clarke/Sessegnon (or sign Fraser from Bournemouth on a free if we really do need another one here)

Yep
And if we push NDombele as a 10/8 we need another midfielder
Gedson and sissoko are similar in style
Lo Celso and winks could be argued are similar in style
And a DM and Skipp could be like for like
We don’t have a second right back and IMO we don’t have a quality first choice option So we need strengthening there although you could argue that Tanganga is one for their too...

Their XG shows that they offered over 3 times more than us mate.

Also they played 2DMS until the 63rd minute when they brought Pogba on for Fred. Look at how they then started to make their dominance count.

There is of course 1 very good right back available for nowt in Meunier (although rumours of him having agreed a deal at Dortmund)
There are also two promising young right backs with deals expiring this summer..... Ferguson from West Brown (who can also play on the left or at centre back) and Ngakia from West Ham.
I think Clyne is also on a free from Liverpool and might be a safe'ish cover option for Aurier for next season and let us concentrate on the long term fix the year after.
It would probably make sense to sign both Clyne (English) and Ferguson (English and under 21). We could then put any fees received from KWP and Forth towards a defensive midfield player and not take up any more valuable overseas spots in the squad.

Exactly
They played 2 DMs and Hugo made 2 great saves the one tipped over the bar and the one he tipped round ten post that came on Sanchez
Until they brought on the attackers they were really blunt and huffed and puffed. They had to change something as they were losing. Once they scored they didn’t really offer anything other than Greenwood’s bricks that went wide
XG is a massively floored metric IMO. It’s like corner count too

Yeah I like the look of the West Ham lad and I’ve heard form my spammer supporting mates that it’s a done deal to us... but they said the same about rice. Difference now is their in an even worse state but I could see us going for him. Ferguson too has been linked in the past and makes sense
You know my thoughts on Meunièr. I rate him from what I’ve seen of him for Belgium but if he is ok going Dortmund then fair play

I cant say I've seen Ngakia but if he's out of contract at West Ham this summer then he's be a very Spurs signing (young, English, cheap, etc)

I think I would probably marginally prefer Ferguson to Ngakia. I am a little concerned with the ability on the ball that both of them possess however.
Jayden Bogle from Derby is the best of the very young full backs in the country in my opinion, certainly in terms of ability on the ball. Not sure of Derby's financial situation but assuming they miss promotion then there could be a bargain there.
Of all of the right backs in the lower divisions though I would say that Matty Cash is the best right now. He is already good enough for PL football IMO and he could come into this Spurs team and do a job right away I think. Back in January I think Forest were turning down offers of around £12 to £15 million for him but he'll only have a year left on his contract this summer and maybe £15 million could be enough to get him. As an English player he would be well worth that sort of fee.

There was also the Rashford shot where Lloris saved really well with his feet and the chance where Fernandes played a beautiful pass to (I think) Martial that looked a certain goal but Dier did really well to get the block in.

XG is a better indication of possession or shots on target (two more measures where Man Utd were dominant over us) as it at least gives some credence on where the shot was taken from and the situation that led to the shot being taken. The reality though is that we had Bergwijn's goal and a header from Son, both in the first half and as we went even more defensive and deeper we created nothing. Maybe you're quite happy with Spurs being that sort of team, it just doesn't sit well with me, especially when it doesn't result in us getting the three points anyway.

I thought in the pre-covid game against Norwich it was quite telling that after playing awful, negative, defensive football for a majority of the game we absolutely pulverised Norwich from the point they equalised until the end of the game. Had we played on the front foot the whole game then I think we would've won comfortably but that seems to be alien to Mourinho at the moment.

Yep. The shot at Hugo was miss IMO and that’s the one that may have skewed their xg. The martial Blocked shot was great defending From dier
The save that De Gea made from Sons header was great too... but apparently a low scoring chance

That was actually quite a low scoring chance though.... The only place Son could score with that header was top right hand corner really. Son made pretty much the perfect header and still it was saved. I would expect a goal to be scored maybe 1 in 5 times from that position.

Think @Danishfurniturelover has been flagging him up in the past too
I’ve never seen him play to comment but he is well rated

I’d argue less than that TBH

It was a phenomenal recovery from Dier but from memory, he was ball-watching in the first place which allowed Martial to find the space.

The pass from Fernandes was absolutely fantastic though. I didn't even spot that the pass was on while watching on TV. Martial's control was then also first class as Fernandes really pinged that ball into him hard. I thought it was magnificent defending from Dier to be aware enough to get there and make that block. I think Man Utd would've scored there against most defences in the PL.
