Mauricio Pochettino - Sacked

We have certainly not played the free flowing football of last season ( ? Due in part to slower less penetrative full back). Our press has largely disappeared. Kane is seriously out of form. We overuse certain players and have underused others ( especially Moura). We have looked leggy and slow of late (? Overtrained) . We still haven't learnt to set up from corners. Poch is too often too stubborn. The smile has even disappeared from Son's face. The happiness has gone from our football.

Agreed re: happiness. I said to my mate Monday night, that they were playing joylessly.

There are some un-fudging-believable reactions in here.

Actually, no there isn't. They are very believable nowadays. I would be tinkling myself reading this thread if I was a rival fan, laughing at the Spuds and their new-found sense of entitlement.

We don't have some divine right to dodge dips in form. It's brick when it happens - especially at such a key time - but all the club can do is move on and work hard to get through it. It's a blip, not the end of the world folks.

I get why people are upset (I was gutted when WBA scored, too.) but to start advocating Poch's removal is an ebarrassing over-reaction AFAIC. It's like getting a divorce because your partner says they don't actually like Star Wars!! :)

Anyway, I hope the doom-mongers have slept it off and have a better sense of perspective, today.

Mate. Stop there. If a few weeks have "slowly" changed your mind, it is you who should ask yourself some serious questions. Obviously all is not great right now, but "a few weeks" have turned you into a "realist"? A "reactionary" perhaps?

I think he's saying that a number of things have concerned him this season (over the years?) but he put them down to bad luck or expected Poch to learn, so never really gave them much thought. But then the united game made him realise that actually there was a deeper problem.

I don't actually agree but I can see why the united game and how we collapsed post dembele error has been viewed by so many as a watershed moment.

Playing so well and vibrant and then after united score, we constantly mis place passes, heavy touches galore, horrific crosses, basically all the hallmarks of choking.

But personally some of the other games such as Juve we were very unlucky and same against chelsea in last seasons semi.

And actually against an ultra defensive stubborn wba I thought we played okay but we were crying out for Lucas but to wait until so late to bring him on is almost unforgivable for me.

It's just plain ridiculous that we looked everywhere for this type of player for these exact games (something different to open it up) and we are not using him correctly.

It's adding to some of the nagging doubts others are having I guess.

He needs to start on Wednesday and not in a side (like at Brighton) where the likes of sissoko are also playing. He needs to start with all the other main stays in the side.

He's what we need in these type of games and he's actually motivated, whereas others (especially son) is thinking of the World Cup far far too much imo.

Err he has been fantastic and we are punching well above our weight. He has spoiled us and allowed fans to try to make rediculous claims and demands.

in the 2 horse race season we choked and came third, what did Poch do ? in that summer our players in the England team choked playing Iceland, what did Poch think and then do for our players ?
choking is a mental thing, and that needs specalists to deal with, giving the manager & coaches reinforcement words & terms, and work on the players minds, but what has the club done ?
Poch is poor at making game changing sub's, he waits too long to make the change
Poch appears to be putting his self under pressure this season, in other seasons he has given a young player 5-10 mins in games to bring them into the first team, but not this season why ? no-one good enough or the pressure of making the top 4 ?

In the last few weeks poch is confirmed how brick he is and how much we know more than him as fans.

Lovely day for a moan or perspective

He has definitely been fantastic and has done brilliantly well to assemble such a good squad on a small budget and by developing young players into stars.

I suppose the question is, does the fact he did so brilliantly well to do the above, then excuse him of what he actually does with that squad?

I.e. For me we are not punching above our weight with the players we have, we are pretty much where we should be (perhaps this squad should be doing a little better but we haven't had WHL this season), we punched above our weight asssmbling this squad but the team of stars we have is not punching above it's weight in terms of their class.

But their certainly not failing either by any means.

The United choking post dembele error was a concern for me, not using Lucas more is a concern for me and of course a collapse that sees us blow top 4 would be a massive concern for me.

As long as the latter doesn't happen, Poch deserves at least two more years to see what he can do in our new home with increased funds.

That is why I raised the question re AVB. At his post match presser, all he seemed to bring up was issues of our domination and amount of possession. These are not, in and of themselves, what our goals should be. The freshness, workrate, dynamism and team spirit which identified his early years seems to have been sadly lacking recently.

His latest forays into the transfer market simply haven't strengthened the team, as opposed to the squad, one iota. Even his best recent buy, Sanchez, has had the effect of weakening the team (at least in the short term) as it has come at the expense of Alderwereld, who is currently the better player. Why he persists with Lamela against bus parkers when Lucas is available, is simply mind blowing and gives strength to the argument that he plays favourites.

I am certainly not calling for Poch to resign or be sacked, but I do think he must learn from his mistakes. This upcoming transfer window could prove pivotal to our destiny. Get it right, and we move onwards and upwards, get it wrong and all the good work and foundations he has laid will be undone.

I don't know what he did in that particular pre-season but whatever it was, it led to us being unbeaten at home (dropping only 4 points), and finishing second with our highest points tally. Oh, and that psychologically damaged England striker won the Golden boot in the process.

I think the 'choking' notch needs turning down a tad.
We haven't choked anything.
If we finish outside the top 4 then it will be a massive c@ck up, of course. But as of now we are still in a CL spot and will still be there at the end of this weekend, whether by a gap of 2,4 or 5 points.
2 Wembley games left. It is in our hands.
It's no wonder the media hang the bottler/choker tag around our necks when our own fans are so quick to apply it.

There are clearly some things that need to be worked on/improved. There is clearly a problem with Kane at the moment.
But by 5pm next Sunday, when we have secured that CL spot, things will feel a whole lot better.
And if we haven't.... crash helmets on for post-mortem fallout.

I think Pochettino will leave at some

^This^

The total over reaction to the semi final loss is an example.

Psychologically damaged striker that went on to literally be the best goal scorer in the world the following season :D

Honestly, do you people read what you are posting before you hit submit? I don't know whether to laugh or cry at some of the gonad*s trying to be passed of as reasoned opinions since yesterday

Maybe he thinks throwing them in with bunch of chokers would be bad for their development?

Serious answer : Poch has said the bar is much higher now. Before a young player could be 6/10 or 7/10 and get a chance. But the standard we are at now, an 8 is needed.
The early rounds of the domestic cups are the time to 'test-run' a young player or two. But then Poch gets slated for not taking the cups seriously.

The last few weeks have pretty much crystallised our major issue - that we lose crunch games. That is a becoming a feature of Poch’s reign. I’ve worried about it for a while (along with his belittling of the only trophies we can really win and his poor in-game management, all things I’ve raised here before) and there is no evidence that it is changing.

fudge off you impatient unappreciative clams .... fudging internet generation

I’m 48, so not really sure I’m ‘internet generation’...but thanks for the compliment!

I’m more than grateful for what Poch has done, but that doesn’t mean that he shouldn’t be questioned imo - and I do feel there is a bit of an attempt at times on here to shout down anyone who raises any weaknesses that he might have.

I’m not saying he should be sacked. I’m considering whether the evidence is beginning to suggest that he loses key games; that this has been happening since his arrival and shows no signs of going away; that his policy of freezing out big players has some benefits to the squad but also some downsides; that his in-game management and team selections are often iffy.

In turn, these beg the question can we as a club, given where we now are, do better? I don’t agree with those who say we are punching above our weight - on paper, for me, our players are as good as any other team in England bar City. And yet another season has gone by without a trophy or a final.

Yes, these things are hard to win, so even more of a reason to ask how we get over the line we keep stumbling on.

Anyhow, it’s a lovely sunny day and I’m off out into it. I’ve said my bit, I’m fully behind the team and hope that Poch proves my worries wrong over the next year or two. Time will tell.

Err he has been fantastic and we are punching well above our weight. He has spoiled us and allowed fans to try to make rediculous claims and demands.
We aren’t punching well above our weight - we was a consistent top 5 club before he came along. We’d got CL football and to the quarters before he came along. Don’t get me wrong I love Poch but let’s not oversell it. Practically everyone on here likes to talk like we are one of the top clubs, therefore we have to act like one. We haven’t won any trophies which means that’s something we have to do. This means showing more progression. Some people are seeing warning signs that Poch might not be the man to take us to the next level and they are perfectly entitled to. As has been discussed there are plenty of consistencies that mean he is entitled to be questioned. He has won NOTHING in his managerial career so let’s not pretend he’s at GHod like status and that no one should dare question his methods....

The only change i think is needed is Poch attitude towards subs and dropping players off form.

Alli had a bad run and has still not been fantastic yet he still played week in an week out and the same with Kane. He needs to have the bottle to drop these key players. When he first came to the club he showed no mercy in getting rid of the bad apples but it seems he may be a little scared of upsetting the superstars.
