Toby Alderweireld

One player who will almost certainly start is Christian Eriksen, who scored the fourth goal against Everton despite operating from a slightly deeper position than usual. The Denmark international’s contract is due to expire in 2020, with negotiations ongoing.

Pochettino said: “The decision is going to happen, at the end of the season, or another decision is going to happen in the next few days, in January … I hope we are going to keep the best decision for the club, hope that the player can take the best decision for them and for their future and the club.”

Eek!

I think Poch is just saying (that obviously) it's up to CE.
The way the team is...the way the club is, and how lovely the manager is open for all to see.
There is nothing to add...if CE thinks that is worth moving on from, then good luck to him.

Oh well. Emirates Marketing Project could be above us if they just spent a bit more.:)

They could be. Comes down to margins, really - how much would spending have improved us?

I'm of the opinion that Poch can make a pound go the absolute farthest when compared with any other manager in the league. So even if City spent a bit more, it might well have been fruitless had we done so as well.

All academic, though - our owners would rather spend nothing at all and make Poch try to stretch 0 pounds to infinity, titles and trophies be damned. :p

Poch is saying that Spurs will NOT let Eriksen's deal go into next season.
So it will be sorted out in the summer... and then he thinks "oh yeah, or in January".
It doesn't necessarily mean he is being sold, but obviously it does point that way, as he can sign a contract at any time, not only during the transfer windows.

It will be a nasty blow, but we just need to ensure we invest the money wisely.
Look at Pool, they spent years needing a keeper and defender, and only bought them once their star player went to Barca.

POCH CONFIRMS ALDERWEIRELD EXTENSION

Mauricio Pochettino has confirmed that Tottenham will trigger the clause in Toby Alderweireld’s contract to extend it until 2020.

In doing so, Sky Sports News understands they will activate a clause that states he can leave for a fee of £25m in the summer of 2019, instead of on a Bosman free transfer.

However, Spurs would have to receive that £25m offer from another club 14 or more days before the end of the 2019 summer transfer window.

Maybe just warding off foreign clubs making him offers in Jan to move in the summer for free?

Id imagine despite this a deal between he and the club can be struck
Yeah, same situation as it's been for a while now. A deal can be struck, but no signs of it actually happening.

Tough spot for us. If nothing happens until the summer he could go anywhere, we couldn't block a move to a PL rival. If we could get more money and have him go abroad in January that might be the better option...

It does look like we are going to lose him in the summer for this £25m sadly.

I can see Barcelona coming in for him and Toby happily going their.

It leaves us with a massive hole to fill in the summer. If Jan can stay fit next season he can form a good partnership with Sanchez and we also have Foyth developing.

But we will need to go into the market and find another Sanchez level player.
Depends how highly Pochettino rates Foyth. If he thinks he can step up over the next year we might look at other options rather than spending a lot of money on another centre back.

Can’t wait to see him running out at the Emirates with his Arsenal strip on.

We will be able to get a bit more in the summer.Clubs that want him won't wait around until the last 14days to see if he is still available.
No logic to sell him now when he is playing so well for us.

I think Davies has proved he looks at home at CB in the last couple of games, so If we had to lose Toby at the end of the season we may not be is such a rush to sign another one. Foyth, Jan, Sanchez along with Davies and lets not forget Dier can play there if required.

They won't have to, the clause expires with 14 days of the window remaining

It is drafted to give us time to bring in a replacement should he leave.
