You have to give credit to Brighton for sure. But I’m not sure the fact Brighton had a plan is a good enough reason for us to put in a performance like that. If all it takes is for a mid level club to execute a plan and we are performing that poorly then that would be a concern. We should have enough about us, both the players and coach to counter a plan from such a team. For me it was more simply a bad day at the office from top to bottom….

Brighton are (at their best) a very good team, held back by a lack of clinical finishing and individual mistakes.

Them putting in very good performances, and either getting a result or not depending on if they make those mistakes and if they actually take their chances is nothing new.

If two of their forwards were Kane/Son level finishers (not as good elsewhere, just the finishing) I think they would be way up the table.

That's not saying that we couldn't have done better of course, but then making games very difficult for us doesn't say as much about us as it would have had this been against most other teams that much lower in the table.

Yes Brighton are indeed a good side. But I don’t care if it was Emirates Marketing Project who had a plan and executed it well against us - we have an elite manager and good enough players that we should be able to adapt and come up with ways of at least asking the opposition questions.

After a defeat things get over analysed to death on here. This is sport, sometimes a team just has a bad day at the office. This was one of those days. Conte was poor, the players were poor. C’est la vie. We move on…..

Depends what you mean by asking questions, we did some of that in the second half at least.

The very elite teams have the quality to make sure this kind of game rarely happens, if ever. They can be without some players, have a not great day themselves, come up against a good team having a good day and still play well enough to deserve a win just about every time. They'll still lose at times of course, but at least a performance good enough to win most of the time.

We're not at that level. That level is beyond having "good enough" players. Very good to excellent players that fit well into the system and enough cover/competition to be able to deal with some injuries and still have some real quality on the bench.

Not sure ominous, but it looks like it'll come down to the NLD

    Winner takes all.

Looks like its going to be a situation similar to 2010 at the Etihad. Just hope we dont lose to Burnley like we did after that match

So their final 5 games excl the NLD - Man U (h), West Ham (a), Leeds (h), Newcastle (a), Everton (h). Can imagine that there's 11 points there (3W, 2D)

In which case we either need 11 points from our 5 excl the NLD and draw that one, or 8-11 points and win the NLD

I'm not sure I see us getting 11 from Brentford, Leicester, Liverpool, Burnley, Norwich. I could see us getting 10 points, in which case we need to win the NLD

After tonight and the boost they will have got, I see them winning all 5 of those. Believe me we will get no favours off West Ham. Our best chance of slip up might be a resurgent Toon army, or hopefully Everton having to secure a point on the last day to stay up.
As we cant bank on anything at Anfield, the target has to be winning the other 5

Hoping that Ronaldo is back on Sat and that Arsenal's shorter turn around time impact them too. If Arse win that, then I'd make them favourites

Looks likely. But I am clinging to the feint hope United need to show some reaction to last night. Rangnick needs to stress to his troops they can still finish 4th with a win at Arsenal.
I cant believe they are 'on the beach' just yet with an outside chance of 4th still in the offing. West Ham tailing off in the League I could understand as they can put all their eggs in the Europa league basket, Man United havent got that back-up

Having a double-legged semi-final either side of that game I can see them making 9/10 changes, its a brilliant chance for them to reach a European final. I honestly would not blame them.
Of course, had they been playing us, they would still be up for it, as will Leicester be when we play on the same day

It all makes the loss to Brighton look even worse. When the goons play West Ham it is 3 days after their europa league semi final on the thursday. So I fully expect the goons to win. Why am I such a pessimist? Someone give me some positivity to hang on to.
