    Agreed

We literally ran out of legs which led to mistakes

He was a shrewd signing for Wolves. We should have got him. Levy out.

Fine. But there are numerous examples of chances we have failed to take when presented with an opportunity to go top or to really put ourselves amongst it within the title race.

Wouldn't that be a fairly normal by product of not being the best team in the league?

No. Because we tend to play better when we are under the radar and people aren’t paying as much attention to us. We have dropped points in games we should be winning, West Ham, scum at home, Bournemouth away etc when we’ve had the chance to go top. Not only did we not get the result but the performances tended to be some of the worst of that particular season.

Have anything to back that up other than gut feeling?

Logic would suggest that the higher we are up the table, the better our form is.

I'll bet over the past few seasons, City have dropped more points from top of the table than we have.

The Leicester season we played West Ham away and arsenal at home in the same week. We had the chance to go top of the table (temporarily) on both occasions and managed 1 point from those two games. The arsenal home game was played against 10 men for half an hour, playing with a lead against a team that was essentially demoralised after having coughed up their place at the top of the table. They were there for the taking that day and we let them off the hook. We actually could have lost the game at the very end if not for a last ditch tackle by Wimmer on Ramsey.

Bournemouth away in 2016/17. Had the chance to go top with a win and drew 0-0

I would agree City have dropped more points from being top than we have. But I would put that down to the fact that we haven’t actually been top of the league for many games. Can you name a time in any season when we were top after say the end of September?

I don’t think this is limited purely to league form either. United in the fa Cup last season we did not turn up at all and went out with a whimper in the end and didn’t threaten united at all.

What do you think the odds of us taking 3 points from Arsenal or West Ham are compared to other teams at their level in the table? I'd guess that our chances of dropping points against two teams so desperate to beat us would be high.

These things happen. Good teams lose at Bournemouth quite regularly I think.

    Precisely.

And we have lost a lot of points from a position near the top because we're a team that spends a lot of time near the top but are not good enough to win the league.

It's a cup competition - you either lose a match or you win the whole thing. There are far too many variables in a one-off knockout match to make any longer term judgements from them.

We have to accept that we have rivals and they will do everything they can to beat us. United have had to deal with this since forever. Liverpool have to deal with it. No one likes Chelsea so they have to deal with teams wanting to beat them also.

I don’t have unreasonable expectations, I don’t expect us to win the league. I do however think we have the talent to have won at least one trophy in the last 2-3 seasons. Others may say we’re “tired” or it’s just a “one off result” whenever we lose a big game at the business end of the season but I don’t think it’s a coincidence that we tend to get negative results in the latter stages of tournaments and when we have a chance to go top.

    Ottawa, actually.
We're on 60, so 20 more should do it. I know people will say 78 is sufficient, but I wouldn't feel comfortable with that.

Six wins and two draws from our last 12 games should do it.

Or, given that we don't draw - seven wins from 12 games, which should put us on 81 points.

5 points behind Liverpool, and we play next before they do. So win and they then go to Old Trafford just 2 points ahead of us

Hopefully we wont bugger it up before we go to Chelsea and play Arse in succession, but those two games look massive. Shame there's only 2.5 days between them....

Yeah strange that the fixture computer dropped them out like that at a crucial part of the season.....

Hopefully the two London tacos finish outside of the CL places again.

It is ruining Arsenal's finances and Roman doesn't seem willing to splash the money anymore.

I hope so as well though I think Roman will always make sure his investment is secure. But I so want to ask every Arsenal and Chelsea fan where you can watch Champs league football in London next year.

They will say “Wembley” and then make a weak joke about safety systems. Don’t tee it up for them.
