Did we play a behind closed doors friendly in the 3 weeks leading up to final? As whilst I’m not sure quite how much it helped Liverpool, considering how turgid a game it was, perhaps our front line might’ve looked a tad sharper in front of goal...

Absolutely agree. The lazy narrative after the final was that Poch made an error starting Kane. Didn’t agree with that at all. During the match, it was plain to see that Son and Alli were having a stinker. But of course the focus was on Kane. If he had had better movement around him he would have escaped the shackles of VVD. Personally I would have taken off Dele for Moura earlier. I would also have liked to have seen Lamela come on for Son but unfortunately Sissoko’s injury put paid to that.

I believe a lot will have been learnt by our players from Saturday. Poch will get them together and analyse the game I am sure. I am really confident after this season, with some additions in the transfer window, we can win the tournament in the near future.

That and defenders contorting themselves to ensure their arms are not 'in an unnatural position,' whatever that is.

It's the most ridiculous rule change ever. Given handball is always going to cause controversy, wtf was wrong with hand-to-ball vs ball-to-hand?

And/or allowing an interpretation of intention to gain an advantage?

I assume because interpretation allows for both variation between referees and variation in how they treat different teams.

I'm not sure this is the correct answer, but taking the interpretation away from a group who have shown themselves incapable of working to a standard is the right thing to do.

In that case perhaps the ‘authorities’ need to release images/diagrams of what constitutes a handball or other infraction. Not only to the clubs but for the public (and Moussa Sissoko). For example, someone lumps the ball at your head and your reflexes bring your hands up to protect your gorgeous visage. Handball or no?

If the brief is to clarify and take interpretation out all these (and many other) issues need to be made clear.

The facts remain that the side chosen to start created enough openings but simply weren’t clinical enough. That much is beyond discussion, we all saw it. Moura also had a very good chance when he came on which he couldn’t take FWIW.

Yeah I did think then it was not to be because Moura’s Chance was a very good chance- we score then and I think we would have gone on to win it.

But, like the decimation in the mcu, we have to move on and look to the future and remember the Qf and Sf games that will live long in my memory as epic football nights. Still can’t stop smiling when I see that 3rd Moura goal go in.

our fans did not look up for it in this game as much as the scousers!..did they!
and those hanckerchief flags of ours were embarrassing ,while they had huge flags flares..
it would be interesting to hear from someone who was there..
maybe we used up all our inspiration in the semi..

Well you can here from me then mate.
As one of those who incurred the time, travel and expense of making the trip I can assure you that your view is a pile of gonad*s. How could 16k fans making a trip across Europe for a game not be up for it?

A handful of bigger flags in the Liverpool end and some illegal flares meant that their fans wanted it more?

Despite the shock of the early penalty, we sang all game and heard very little from their end, despite them leading a CL final for the whole game.

Sorry that the Spurs flags were embarrassing for you (maybe you missed the huge Spurs banner that ran the full width of our end?) Next time we could go full scouse and attack their team bus to show just what passionate fans we are.

Hi mate, good to know you were up for it..its hard to judge if your not there. I have allways emphasised how important it is for the fans to get behind the team..and generally our fans are better away from home..didn,t see the big banner though. Yes I did hear our fans but for me I was bloody well watching via youtube on the TV and the reception was terrible , players ghosting all over the pitch and I don't think the sound was all that ...made for a great evening all in all.
The early goal was deflating and Liverpool wasting time on throw ins and their fans booing when we had the ball..Disapointing I know ..the ref killed the game by giving the penalty.
anyway cheers. They were scared of us but we had to try and score when we didn't really deserve to be behind and Liverpool history has allway's been about good defense when ther'e in front. used to be Liverpool playing for offside offside and passing back to the keeper. I really hope we can raise the sound level this season in the new stadium...It definitely helps....

So, but sound and picture was terrible, but still you slate our fans based on that. Well done!

yeah it may come across as such but I praise our fans .. i did ask who was there!
I did think the scousers had the upper hand on flags..We dont do flags do we!?
If you asked a neutral what set of fans looked more up for it on the day ..I think they may very well have said liverpool..but I want our fans to be up there with the best. To be honest its remarkable how good our fans are when we hardly have any local fans anymore in Tottenham!

It won't happen if the ref doesn't give it and VAR doesn't deem it a mistake on the part of the ref.

They've made a rod for their own backs with how ridiculously inflexible this law is, though. Usually, some grey area is present that refs can use to avoid having to give big calls like that against bigger teams.

There is none here - arm, penalty, unless your arm is essentially taped into either your torso or your back. And attackers *will* start deliberately punting the ball into the arms of opponents - why ignore the 5-10 goals a season that can get you?

I anticipate two things will happen at some point.

Firstly, players will start getting more shoulder, elbow and arm injuries, since it simply isn't natural to put your arms behind your back when falling or going to ground around the box. And having the full weight of your body on your arm, especially extended unnaturally behind your back or straight in front of you, is a recipe for these injuries.

Secondly, there will be a ball hitting an arm in the box against one of the FIFA/UEFA's favorite teams (Madrid, Barca et al), and the ref will be forced to give it, causing uproar. The power of these clubs will then force the utterly stupid rule to be discarded.

Too late for Spurs, of course, but then, it always is - we're the guinea pigs for stupid footballing rules, like being forced to play on the final day after Lasagnagate, missing out on the CL after Chelsea won it and now this.
