A real potential banana skin. It is an acid test to show we are not DrTottenham but realistic challengers. I still think the loss to Burnley was the beginning of the end for the Poch era. We owe these boogers. We need a good strong performance throughout the side. We need three points. We need to see if some of our players can play on a wet Monday night in Burnley. No excuses please.

    TEAM NEWS
Burnley defender Phil Bardsley is self-isolating after testing positive for coronavirus.

Ben Mee is back in training but not yet ready to feature, Erik Pieters is a doubt with a calf problem and Bailey Pearooster-Farrell and Jack Cork are out.

Tottenham head coach Jose Mourinho will restore his first-team regulars after resting them for the Europa League.

Eric Dier faces a fitness test on the hamstring injury that has caused him to miss their last two matches.

Jose also noted that recent results had been hampered by some seriously brick OMTs, but none as bad as this one.

Difficult to predict this game. If Burnley channel their inner Burnleyness it could be very tough. If we play well and get the first goal fairly early it could be a different story.

Pressure is on, hopefully the players react well.

Yes, hopefully the fact that the ground is empty will make it an easier place to go to.

I worry about our CBs and their bully-boy CFs. Sanchez is a 5 stone weakling so not the ideal starter - wonder whether Rodon has a shot at playing, partly because he's 6 foot 4, partly because of CBs have been cr@p so far this season and partly because we have another game on Thurs.

Regarding Thurs and our CB combinations, I doubt Dier would play in both (or either) given his recent injury and Toby probably can't play 2 games in 72 hours. Perhaps that leads to to Dier and Rodon today (if Dier is fit) and Toby and Sanchez on Thurs. I assume Tanganga will be eased back in given how long he's been out for

    Leads me to:

    ------------------------------Lloris--------------------------------

    ---Doherty--------Dier---------------Rodon------------Davies--

    -----------------Hojbjerg-------------Sissoko--------------------
    --------------------------Used-to-be-Tubby-----------------------

    --------Bergwijn-----------Kane----------------Son----------------

I think he'll save Bale for 70-80 mins on Thurs, and similarly I expect GLC to be on the bench and eased back in. I'd pick our physically strongest fullbacks today, even though Aurier and Reguilon have been better so far this season

    Must win.

Hope whoever is at cb can improve the overall confidence of the team, feels it might be too early for Rodon but it will also be an indictment of how Jose sees our issues as down to defensive personnel as opposed to the unit. Davies seems to be likely at left back for his defensive aerial ability, to give Reggie a rest and potentially give Rodon some familiarity if he does play. Would love to the Lo Celso Hojberg and Ndombele make the midfield trio but Jose May prefer the physicality of Sissoko and ease Gio back. not sure who will get the nod at RWF, guess at Bergwijn.

Not a nice night to be coming up here to Burnley. Miserable day up North.

A Cold, rainy night in deepest Lancashire against a team without a win this season. The chance to go 5th within 2pts of the leaders.

It's got Dr Tottenham written all over it. IIRC the last time we came to Turf Moor on a Monday night was for an FA Cup 3rd round match a few years ago, and it was a dour 1-1 draw.
Dont mind a boring game, providing we get the 3pts

Rodon will be interesting. To what extent it's forced if he does start I guess we'll never know.

A decent, though tough, game for him if he's thrown in. Should be used to the physical duels from the Championship and he seems to have the attributes to deal with Burnley quite well physically. Also a game where we'll probably see quite a bit of the ball so he could use his quality on the ball.

Stuck with the feeling that he's quite likely to start, for the reasons you outline. Obviously if he doesn't or shouldn't come as a shock.

    MATCH FACTS
    Head-to-head
    • Burnley have won just two of their 12 Premier League games against Tottenham, at Turf Moor in 2009-10 and 2018-19.
    • There have been 100 league matches between these sides. The Clarets have won 36, Spurs 39 and there have been 25 draws.
    Burnley
    • Burnley's only win in their past 23 Premier League home fixtures against established top-six opposition came at the expense of Spurs in February 2019.
    • That is the only victory Sean Dyche has achieved over Tottenham in 13 matches as a manager for Watford or Burnley.
    • This is the third time the Clarets have begun a Premier League campaign without a victory in their opening four games.
    • Since Burnley's return to the Premier League in 2016-17, only Southampton have had more than their 13 goalless draws in the division.
    Tottenham Hotspur
    • Tottenham are on a nine-match unbeaten run in all competitions and have scored 19 goals in their past four matches.
    • Spurs are looking to win their first three away games of a Premier League season for only the second time, emulating the 2017-18 campaign.
    • They are only the third club to score more than 10 goals in their opening two away matches of a top-flight season (5-2 v Southampton and 6-1 v Manchester United). Sunderland, in 1892-93, and Middlesbrough, in 1935-36, both scored 12.
    • They have kept just two clean sheets in 28 league away games, both in goalless draws last season against relegated sides Bournemouth and Watford.
    • They have conceded three goals in the 90th minute or later this season, more than any other Premier League side prior to the latest round of fixtures.
    • Son Heung-min won the 2019-20 Premier League Goal of the Season award for his individual effort in Tottenham's 5-0 win over Burnley last December.
