Good transfer. He won the 2016 South American Young Player of the Year. A bit more expensive than I expected but he is clearly one who should improve in the future - He is presently not good enough to displace Dier, Toby or Jan as first choice unless he rapidly improves on his positioning. I dont think he can play at RB. I am hoping the club will announce a RB. This transfer says goodbye to CCV. He hasnt made the cut.

Are you saying that we parted with about 40 large to cover CCV. I think levy doesnt have a clue.

[in reply to Gazza's post above about Sanchez going to Real next year]

If that happens then he'll have had a great season and we'll be getting £100m+ in for a centre-back. Not the worst outcome!!

As I said before, its better that Real and Barca want your players than for them to think they're not good enough

This could spell a loan for CCV

If we get Foyth then we can loan CCV out for a year to a League 1 club - would be best for his development, similar to Onomah going to Villa

I thought that you thought that we didn't have enough CBs. If we bring in Foyth, sell Wimmer and loan CCV then we have exactly the same number as we did at the beginning of the window.

Happy as Larry with this transfer...strengthens defence and midfield as dier can revert back there.

Might take him a while to settle but I've a good feeling about him and I think he'll be immense for us.

Well done thfc transfer delegation!

Happy days

I don't really view CCV as a viable option at CB at the moment, at least not for any meaningful game (ie PL or CL game or domestic cup game against a PL team). He's barely played a competitive game and in the one or two he has, he's looked quite slow and cumbersome to me. On that basis, if we sign Sanchez and Foyth and sell Wimmer then we're +1 at CB assuming Foyth is good enough to start when needed - like most people (I expect), I've never seen him play.

We'd be in a good position going into the season with Toby, Verts, Sanchez and, when not playing in midfield, Dier as our main CB options, with Davies and Foyth as back-ups. I cant see that CCV would be needed much at all and think he'd benefit infinitely more from playing week in, week out this season.

We'd probably be stronger but it is difficult to tell how young foreign signings will settle. I think that it would have been interesting to see how CCV would have done in the league cup but he probably will not get the chance if we bring in two CBs. A loan to a decent side may be better for his long term progression though. As always on these things, I think Poch deserves our trust.

Well, he'll have zero problems communicating with Poch, and if he picked up any Dutch during his year in Amsterdam, he'll have zero problems communicating with half the damn squad, from Verts to Toby to Eriksen to Moussa. :p

So as well as Poch and all his staff, and the Dutch contingent, having Lamela back aroundd the training ground should help too. And didn't Harry Winks say he was trying to learn some Spanish?
It will be a home from home. :)
