Levy only willing to pay £20 upfront, with £20 on top in add ons. Apparently rest is needed to complete the stadium

Taken from Reddit … Danish interview with Eriksen -> https://www.bt.dk/fodbold/eriksen-om-spekulationer-folk-ved-hvad-jeg-gerne-vil

Full translation of everything Eriksen says for those interested:

Regarding the possibility that the names of several big continental clubs have been linked with him

"It's not something i think about. I focus on playing football, and there are a lot of matches you need to think about, and that needs to be won"

    Regarding the Madrid rumour specifically

"It's not the first time there have been rumours, and when the papers write something, it isn't something we control, and if there isn't anything concrete, then i'm just commenting on rumours"

About the Tottenham extension and whether it's a "waiting game"

"I think people know what i want to do, and i know what they (Tottenham) would like, and there is a good dialogue."

    '£225M FOR ERIKSEN'

Tottenham Hotspur chairman Daniel Levy has slapped a world-record £225m price tag on Christian Eriksen, according to AS.

Real Madrid reportedly view Eriksen as the ideal replacement for Luka Modric but are not willing to fork out such a fee for the 26-year-old, who has 18 months remaining on his current Spurs contract.

My thoughts as well, he is the one player we must keep.

I am loving the sound of that last quote.... I wonder whether we'll end up seeing him sign a slighty shorter length contract to what we are used to taking him up to the Summer of 2022. Eriksen gets a big money deal, we get a bit of contract security and in the summer of 2020 both the player and the club can re-evaluate their position either to again extend or start to look for a move elsewhere.

Perhaps Dembele's sale to China may help with this?
There were rumours that Dembele had an agreement with the club to let him leave this month for a final big payday in a less physically demanding league as a sort of 'final thank you'...if that comes to pass maybe Eriksen will have faith to do as you suggest and that it will pan out for both him and us..

I call bullschitt on that "reported" £225M fee.

What? AS called up Spurs, got Levy on the line and he read them the number?

No wonder players give bland replies to questions about rumours. Hardly worth drawing breath to answer.

Yep. These journos don't understand how the concept "everyone has a price" works. It's certainly doesn’t include the selling club showing their cards and revealing the price they will accept. Unless of course It's a ridiculous amount like £10.000.000.000.000.000.000.000.

There's probably two players in the current squad who are effectively irreplaceable with our current budget and Eriksen is one of them. IMO, whether or not he can be persuaded to sign on the dotted line again probably depends as much on how well the club can do at convincing him we're serious about challenging at the very top over the next couple of seasons as it does on how many more millions we can offer him. He's toed the party line on that front when asked about the club's ambitions, but he's entering his peak years, and he will look at the potential bind Alderweireld has found himself in and tell himself he doesn't want to paint himself into a similar corner. I could see him agreeing a year or two extension on the understanding we wouldn't stand in his way if the right offer did come in, and if Madrid do manage to woo him with their siren song, what about sticking two fingers up at Inter and asking for Little Luka himself as part of the deal? Would he consider a reprise gig, I wonder?

IF we lose Eriksen to Madrid then i hope we would insist that Modric be part of the deal, i appreciate he is getting on a bit now but i am sure he is good enough for another couple of years and hopefully we can find another player to step in then.

That's precisely how it sounds to me.

We want him on a long contract, he's willing to sign but only to a shorter one.
