Dalian Atkinson Dead.

Gilzeantoscore

News just in that former Aston Villa, Sheffield Wednesday and Emirates Marketing Project player, Dalian Atkinson was killed today after being tasered by police. He was outside his elderly father's home.

Bloody hell. Maybe our police should pause their Taser use for a bit, he's not the first to die from their use. We're not phucking America.

Maybe they should stop driving cars - I hear people die on the roads. Or stop arresting people? Some people die in prison.

You ain't half a stupid qunt at times.

Cars and roads are necessary things. Tasering people is not, it's quite a recent thing for our police to be doing. They policed without using them in the very recent past. So maybe, they should stop using them for a bit, because it seems like people are being killed when it's not at all necessary.

They policed without cars once upon a time.

It's a terrible thing but until all the details are in it's pointless to make judgements. I'm not in favour of tasers but if a guys was waving a machete near my loved ones my attitude would probably change.

You will be happy to note there was not a matchet in sight

Ron Atkinson's son :)

nah, very sad and unfortunate. Scored a goal of the season once iirc, if he had done that in todays football he would automatically be classed in the 20-30 mill bracket.

always came across as a bubbly character when interviewed back in the day, a nice guy.

RIP Dalian

Thanks, don't believe I implied there was, I was trying to make the point that someones position on issues can change based on circumstances. I don't rush to make judgements until the facts are known.

When it comes to "policing" you never cease to amaze me dude
If you had spent as much time as me living in nice areas that are very close to really awful ones you'd probably agree.

Why did you put policing in quotes? Were the ones involved in this incident pretending to be police?

Paula Quinn, who lives in a first-floor flat near the Atkinson property in Trench, told the Shropshire Star she had witnessed the Taser being fired after hearing shouting.

"I stuck my head out the window to look out and I saw two police officers shouting at the gentleman and he sort of was stumbling towards them and the police officers warned him they would Taser him, but he just seemed a bit, perhaps, inebriated.

"And because he continued to step forward once or twice - non-threatening - they deployed the Taser," she said.

"As the Taser hit him in the stomach he just went 'doof', down like a lead balloon."

If only the police had her expert opinion at the time - they could have just fudged off home and had dinner.

I wonder if its the same silly cow who said on the news that she could hear the coppers boots kicking him, but then said she could hear a lot of shouting but was to far away to make out what was being said.

A pathetic overreaction if remotely true. Poor bastard.

Just for reference, if a policeman tells someone to stop walking towards them or they'll get tasered, and they continue walking....

What do you think the reaction should be?

in my head, a portly gentleman with an umbrella appeared, and rushed over to an ailing Dalian to hold said brolly aloft and shield him pointlessly from the drizzle.

A sad day for Dalian and for Wimbledon umbrella man. RIP.

I think the 'reaction' should be in line with the situation. You know, applying a bit of context, silly things like that. Policemen are, after all, still human beings and not cyborgs or vulcans. I concede, until the full details come out this entire conversation is like tinkling in the wind, however, for the sake of speculative discussion, if Atkinson was stumbling around looking like he was either tinkled or stoned, I would suggest that he did not need an immediate tasering. IF this is to be the new standard of West Midlands policing, expect to see hundred of casualties every single weekend around the streets of Brum...
