Jose Mourinho - SACKED

I think he is juggling his squad and trying to get a winning team of players who listen

Would agree with this, i know he has been here for a while now but if you take into consideration the position we were in when he came in, all the injurys that have taken a long time to settle ( Ndombele, Lo Celso to name just two), new players coming in he has not really had a settled squad.

He has it now but he also needs to allow for the amount of games somehow

Because as great as Son and Bale are, if Kane is injured and Son/Bale play up front we are weaker in two positions:

1. Son/Bale = not as good as Kane
2. Lamela/Moura/Bergwijn = not as good as Son or Bale.

Bit early to judge Bergwijn but Lamela or Moura wouldn’t get into Chelsea, Liverpool or Emirates Marketing Project first 11.

And we’ve been burnt so many times in the past with injuries to strikers. I really don’t think it’s being extravagant having two in the entire squad.
So you plan for us to find a player who is good enough to be better at CF than Bale/Son, lacking enough in ambition to sit on the bench and wait for a guaranteed starter not to start and cheap enough that we could afford their wages despite them not being first choice.

Can I have some of that unicorn juice please?

Why is everyone so fixated on a second striker?

Bale, Son and (at a pinch) Moura can all play there. All at a level at least as good as anyone willing to warm the bench for a guaranteed starter would be able to.

We have high quality cover for all of their positions too. I can't see why we'd use more of our wage bill on someone to twiddle their thumbs and wait for Kane to pick up an injury.

We do need a back up striker in my opinion, but christ we need a top CB far more. Dier may be a warrior and a fighter, but he gets done far too often to be playing against any half decent team. Nowhere near a Top 8 team first XI defender

If José is dropping Dele to try and wind him up to get more out of him. We have a potential tough run of games. Will be interesting if he plays in either of the two midweek games coming up. If he doesn’t that could be it. Or it’s part of A José master plan to unleash an angry Dele against Utd at the end of the run.
Dele will play tomorrow and Jose will make him captain....just to f.ck with his mind a bit more :)

He said in the post match press conference that Dele would start on Tuesday

They don't need to be better than Son or Bale at CF they just need to be better relatively at CF than Moura or Lamela are at WF as that is who going to be playing if we move Son once again to cover for Kane and that isn't a difficult proposition. Neither are top players.

Two comments based on last few pages

- The reason we need/want a 2nd Striker is very simple, Jose wants one, reiterated it in post Southampton interview

Re the game yesterday, it's amazing people still don't understand the 1st/2nd half game

- We had obviously identified Southampton's suicidal highline
- People forget Kane had the ball in the net very early, and actually twice in first half
- The team didn't execute well, but the half time re-organization just allowed us to execute the same strategy just better.

I'd say that's a fairly tough thing to find still. Lamela and Moura are still very good players, both capable of changing games when brought on - as they have done in the past.

There's also the issue of tying up wages and a bench space for what it a marginal improvement over the flexibility and cross cover that we already have.

It's as simple as Jose wants ..

- Yes, we have a boatload of AMs that could play up front
- But, having a dedicated ST (especially one that can add something different, e.g. hold up or ability in the air) can allow the other players to stay in the "normal" role (less disruptive to team play)

Better is a difficult thing to achieve if we're talking about being overall better.

More suited to what Mourinho wants for his style to work. A target man option to allow our other attacking players to flourish without Kane. Someone to bring on to change games.

That I think could be achievable. I think it's definitely wanted.

That's Bale isn't it?

That was my initial assumption, but we've not really used Kane successfully as a target man to date. We've tried, whether by design or panic, to use him that way but I haven't seen it work particularly well.
