World Cup Round of 16 - Fixtures in 1st Post

Gutted that Fabian Johnson is coming off, he looked sharp down the right side with a lot of pace. I thought that he could cause our own Vertonghen a lot of difficulties here tonight.

one of the commentators mentioned a stat that 9 out of 10 of world cup teams that have won after extra time/penalties have gone out in the next round.. anyone hear/remember/verify that fact?

thinking of putting a fiver on brazil, argentina and germany all to go out in the quarters.

I can't verify the stat but I think the basic point is sound. For a long time I've thought the team having a tough match struggles in the next round, in football, rugby and NFL. For instance the world cup in 1998, Argentina beat us, but lost to Holland, who lost to Brasil. The rugby world cup in 1999 and the NFL in the early 90s are other examples. It's very tough to win a series of game in a row due to physical and psychological demands.

Verts killing it. Despite being too big to play left back, he's always been sensational getting forward.

The group games were fantastic, but these second round games have been mostly very poor. A severe lack of quality in the majority of games. Lets hope the tournament isnt going to fizzle out.

Enjoying this one though. Hope USA can soak this up and get them on the counter.
