What would YOUR priority signing be in the Jan transfer window?

Can be useful to have that extra option to cut in, depending on formation, opposition etc. Better two different options rather than clones? Possibly yes, once the side settles. Glass half full....

Yes in some games. In others cutting inside can also be effective.

What would you do with Spence? Sell him?
Why would we sell him. There are games he should be starting instead of Porro! I don't know why you're against sensible quality squad depth.

FB is the most physically demanding position in the modern game. We've been absolutely flogging Porro for the last few years. Giving Porro and Spence 30 starts each + 20 'finisher' appearances, is pretty optimum

Trying to build a squad makes sense, but what’s a mystery is why so many fans are prioritising a position where we already have plenty of quality options. Meanwhile, we still don’t have a quality left winger, our midfield looks questionable, and there are unanswered questions in attack.

Yet somehow, the obsession is with left-back. We already have Udogie as a first-choice option, Spence, who’s been excellent over the past year and even earned a national team call-up (would that have happened if we’d signed yet another left-back?), Davies as a reliable defensive alternative, and Van de Ven can play there - and hes devastating when given space to push forward. That would also give us more flexibility to use Danso, by all accounts he's been excellent at centre-back, while using the other promising CBs as cover.

And as for Spence - he’s shown enough. Just because he cut inside a few times recently and didn’t quite make it work, we’re suddenly fixated on signing a LB. It doesn’t make sense to me.

No.
Of course I would not sell Spence.
I'd rotate him with Porro more and certainly, on occasion if it fits, play him elsewhere.
Of course we want options, but currently we only have one leftt-footed left-back which is a bit of an issue IMO.
His effectiveness is NOT in question. Our squad depth is.

Bit of a hoarder? The player isn't going to want to stay when his playing time is restricted.

I would like to see a creative playmaker, Maddison even when fit is not consistant, Grey MAY be the man but its hard to tell if he is going to get given time to show it.

Kulu is due back soon - that will hopefully be his role, in rotation with Simons. We might also get Donley back in January

I forgot about Kulu to be honest:oops:, however imo I still think we need to replace Maddison with someone who is more consistant and he also seems to pick up injurys quite a lot.

Its that squad management thing though again. If we have Simons and Kulu as our two #10s, we dont have space to be able to name a third (even excluding Maddison). We have to cover it by other players being versatile (Sarr, Odobert, Kudus), or a CT player like Donley.

What do you see in Leao?

He's looked terrible everytime I've seen him. A stepover king with no product whatsoever
To be fair, he is my least favourite of the three. But, he has good speed, good technique and has those long legs that help him when in trouble. He also made a very good left side with Theo Hernandez almost each time I saw them together. My only issue with him is his strength for the PL and he isn't the best coming back.

We can no longer afford Osimhen's wages. Also as a Nigerian and seeing how some fans take shots at players who put country above club, I am not sure I want him at Spurs.

It looks like we have decided to go for Ivan Toney if one believes the media gossip on BBC.

Tottenham manager Thomas Frank could look to reunite with 29-year-old Al-Ahli and England striker Ivan Toney - who he managed at Brentford - in January
He is on 13m per year. I am sure he would rather play in the PL than in Turkey. We should be able to match that and if we can't, then we have no business being in the discussion with the others in the big 6.

Sorry, should've addressed this earlier...it's all about balance and shape as well as not being as easily pressable on one side of the pitch. Yes, VdV can play left-back, however it is a different set of dynamics in terms of movement; frankly, and given the way he's modified his CB play slightly, I think playing at LB would see him increase the potential of a hamstring injury. As for the space and so on, if he is playing left-back, that space would be a ahead of him and outside, so he'd have to beat his man and then cut inside. As a marauding CB he uses the channel.

I am not satisfied with Ben Davies as a our back-up for left-footed CB and LB. Danso is a fine defender but again, I want him on the right as that adjustment to the left is very different for right-footed defenders in terms of angles, flight of the ball, devil details if you will
I think what Spence has done in this regard is actually phenomenal, however we're still easily forced infield when he plays as LB. There are plenty of games right now to share at RB...

Doubt we could do it in January but we need a fudging striker - a quality one. Solanke is decent but injury/no injury we need some real quality there (whilst accepting we aren't going to see Kane mark 2 arrive).....

Muani and Scarlett should both basically be played up to the window, to see if either are the solution. Solanke is a bonus if/when he's back, and Richarlison should only be LW or back up.

Toney is on more than £20m per year. More than twice our all time highest wage paid (Kane and Son's final deals).

He's also not played a competitive game in 18 months. I think it would be a huge disaster waiting to happen.

I’d bet he would be alright

I wonder if we might go back in for Bradley Locko from Brest for LB? We were on the verge of signing him 18 months ago before he got a bad achilles injury. But he's back now fit and playing this season. He'd be a decent price too
