Reasons and excuses are very different. There can be clear reasons for a situation occuring and you also own your part of what happened in that situation.

Dempsey was underrated for sure. Routledge was overrated and unlucky. Eze? He's a top, top player who we should've got last season. Mbuemo? I believe if Man Utd buy him for that they'll be vastly overpaying TBH as I think he's had one proper break-out season and that's it.
