Transfer thread

TBF we got Kudus early for quite big money and would've likely had MGW in early too, for an equally big fee, if it wasn't for whatever happened with that release clause.

We do have a long history of late transfers, though, and probably historically more so than many other clubs (although that's just speculation as I don't really know a lot about other clubs transfer dealings).

Then again, lots of other clubs have completed big signigns on deadline day too, according to a bit of quick Googling:
- Rooney to Manure
- Suarez to Liverpool
- Makelele to Chelski
- Ashley Cole to Chelski
- Tevez to West Ham
- Özil to Arsenal
- Ronaldo to Manure
- Robinho to City
- Martial to Manure
- Cole Palmer to Chelski
- Partey to Arsenal
- Torres to Chelski
- Nunes to City
- Aubameyang to Arsenal
- Antony to MAnure
- Enzo Fernandez to Chelski

You get my drift...then of course there's van der Vaart, Keane, Lloris, Alli, Moura, Johnson - and quite possibly Eze.
Not denying that getting players in late can be a problem.

On a larger scale of issues we've had and can have with recruitment it's imo a rather minor thing that gets overblown. Even a slight increase in getting the right players in would to me be preferable to a large increase in getting players in earlier.

I think it gets focused on as much because it's frustrating for us as fans when things take time.

Definitely, and even more frustrating in an age of constant rumours and player links.

Getting the right player in as early as possible is always preferable, but it's not always doable for many reasons that other posters have mentioned. At least we got our manager sorted early, which was always going to be our most important transfer this summer, IMO.
