Thomas Frank - Former Head Coach

And now what

Get Poch back, he's unsackable and the board have a nice buffer for a few years. Unless Poch has gone full black suit and tie and is going to start calling the lm out when he's in the seat. To be fair he's the one guy that could get away with it right now without the board being able to just him.
I'd have him back tomorrow. To be fair, I would have had him back the day after he left - I never, ever wanted him to go, because he understood us the way no other coach did until Ange.

I think he's probably one of the only people who could turn the mood of the club around in an instant - fans would love him instantly. Hell, they were singing for him tonight. He'd get the crowd inside and the mood going, and that alone would win us a few games.

But, he has to think about what's best for him, too. He's managing the USMNT, heading into a World Cup on American soil. It's a huge, well-compensated job with a lot of exposure.

Him coming here when we're in the mire would be a risky play for him. So I understand why it might not be him.

But - even he did come and get us out of the immediate relegation mess, it isn't going to change anything long term because the way the club operates will not change. Only way it will, is (imo) new owners.

Christian Gross only lasted 27 games for us and we got 34 points.
Frank's first 26 have 29 points.

Damn. A worse win percentage than the worst manager I can remember for our club is pretty damning. I can't last much longer than 26 games.

The thing that really beggars belief, is when we play out from the back, there's seems to be absolutely ZERO plan of how to do it! We either play it to a CB, who plays it to the RB/LB, who is facing the wrong way, and has no other option than to play it back, or flick it, in the hope that someone is there, which there usually isn't. Or we play it to the CM, who receives it, facing the wrong way, and has no other option than to play it back to the CB or GK, who then has no other option than to play it to the other CB.
We have no plan whatsoever! Then we hoof it up, usually towards one of our towering wide forwards, with no one around to fight for the 2nd ball.
It's tragic!
Thing is though, Arsenal are really poor at producing chances from open play, which hopefully will cost them eventually. But they can defend -we can't and they are number 1 I think for set play goals, we started well on this but seems less effective now. The point is under Frank we are not doing anything well. That's why we are where we are and he has to go.

Yes there has no doubt been a downgrade in the quality of the squad. So I don't expect us to be challenging top 4 like we were under Poch. But we should be capable of finishing in the lower European places at least.

A word on the crowd tonight. They were, despite the empty seats, decent. Stayed behind the team during the game. But…

I would love Poch back. A million per cent. But singing another manager’s name at 2-1 down after 80 minutes or whatever is really poor.

Frank is a dead man walking for me but that helps nobody.
It helps when the board are so clueless. It might give them an idea of what to do.

I was well on board with that chant during Mourinho. But I wouldnt join in now, just because Frank's a decent guy

If the owners have balls they should sack Frank, Vinai and Lange.

Get in an interim.

Talk to Poch, if he wants the job in summer then put in a new structure to support that.

Whoever we put in can’t be worse than those 3 losers.
They can sack Vinai and Lange, but are their hands being tied by the Lewis family?

Agreed. It doesn't help, and whatever flaws Frank has as a mediocre coach, he's still human. The visceral dislike for him personally that so many have saddens me, because the man himself is inoffensive almost to a fault.

There is basically nothing about him, good or bad. He's an empty tracksuit. But he gets far worse treatment than even Ange did, who cupped his ear at the fans, and basically goaded them non-stop for being unhappy we constantly lost.

I get why it happens, and I don't blame anyone - but it isn't helpful.

Unfortunately the same happened to Ange, people can't stick with the facts about it, it was all about his weight and crap like that which isn't helpful and you wonder why people feel the need.

Maybe there needs to be a proper campaign to get then out. Like the old Sugar and Scholar ones.

We could perhaps start boycotting and protesting outside some of their primary business, the ones they care about like Harvester and All Bar One

Ange had credit in the bank with the 5th place finish and some at least could see a style and identity. Frank has none of that.

I don't think Ange understood us Dubai. That's a myth perpetuated by his die hard supporters. The way he goaded fans and had a go when we didn't want City to lose to us suggested otherwise.

I love Poch but before he could come back or indeed any long term manager can be successful, we need to find out why we are suffering so many injuries. It can't be coincidence.

I think we're still okay on set-pieces, personally. The only one of the current coaching staff I'd hang on to is Andreas Gregson, because something he's doing is working in the sense that we routinely get goals from corners.

Re: Ange, that's fair mate. Ultimately the reason I think he understood us was because he embodied our motto - he took a gigantic risk by binning the league and gunning for European glory, and it paid off and gave us a lifetime's worth of memories.

He was a grouchy prick, yes. He gaslit us too. But he understood what the club was about, in the sense of it's ethos - attack, go for glory. Players loved him for it, even if we didn't.

Having said that, he's also the reason for our injuries, I think. We've basically had a permacrisis since midway through his first season, and that isn't a coincidence. I think he ran players into the ground, and they started breaking down, and that started a harmful cycle of rushing them back/over playing them, and them breaking down again.

Still happening today, and will take a while to resolve whomever comes in.
