The we are staying up thread

The issue came because the 5 turned into a 3 on the break and they were over run

Nuno has properly fcuked it the last few games
3 on the break means 5 in midfield - they were overrun because the players were lazy and weren't coming back to defend the half spaces.
Howe plays pacy mid passes into half spaces a lot so nuno thought to nullify it which makes sense but oh well.

Munn brought in his own medical team. They are the ones that are currently failing.

We had the 6th best injury record in the league in the 5 years up to that point. Munn hired the team who had the 20th best record. We then dropped to 20th.
This medical team was onboarded from Brighton iirc?

I wonder if any of them are already known by De Zerbi from his time there?

Where do you have the stats re the injury record standings before their appointment?

I'd also mention that it continues with the last big squad rebuild we did. It's very possible that we have bought a bunch of players who are quite susceptible to injury.

Wasn't it the case that Solanke has barely missed a game in his professional career before he came to us? Pretty sure that is true of some other members of the current squad.

These medical assumptions are just narratives. We talk as if our entire medical team left and Brighton's came in. It's just not true. We hired from Brighton, Brentford, Palace and have a mixture of different experiences and skills. Munn didn't singularly hire them either. He has no medical qualifications and would have just been part of the panel.

Reading between the fuzzy lines, Munn's strategic review seemed to be saying that we need more specialisations internally. I'm guessing you can find a specialisation by going outside into resources that are publicly available. However, that doesn't give you any continuity with players like having them on your own team. It sounds like Levy and co turned down the budget request from Munn, even though he is the one getting the stick.

There is clearly a medical issue at Spurs but I've never seen any fan convince me they have a clue what is actually happening. When I've dug around LinkedIn you don't see many medical folks on there.

How does Trafford get so highly rated?

He looks like an accident waiting to happen when I've seen him play.

He had a very good season in the Championship, but in a very good defensive unit.

I think we should be careful with these type of stats as firstly players are more likely to pick up injuries as they get older, secondly due to Europe we play more games then this old clubs and thirdly when you do get one bad injury your body tries to compensate putting you more at risk of other injuries or repeats. So while maybe factually true, it’s a narrow view

In an interesting partial symmetry, given that we've just played them and West Ham have got them on Sunday, when Leeds went down in 2023, their final two games, which, along with Everton's final-day win against Bournemouth jointly sealed their fate, were West Ham away and us at home. Had they won both of those, they would have survived. In the event, they lost 3-1 to Spam, and so went into the game against Spurs needing to win, while hoping either Everton lost to Bournemouth or that they could overcome a -3 goal-difference with them if the Toffees only drew. As it happened, Everton won, so the Spurs result (a 4-1 victory for us in Ryan Mason's last game in charge) didn't really matter. I wonder, though, how long memories will be of the hand West Ham played in their demise that year... Just an idle thought.

The amount of mental gymnastics I've seen over this past few weeks with people predicting how teams and players will 'feel' about relegating us or West Ham and how much effort they are going to put in is amazing :D....
I know Spurs are close to ALL our hearts...but it's just another example of thinking far tooooo much about something. When added to all their other subject/distractions one can think far too much about, I'm surprised anything gets done. There's no rescuing productivity from the gutter, it's a pipe dream :)

I suppose it's because the ability to think out load, communicate those thoughts, and receive feedback eternally, is the current existence loop we're in.

I'm not saying (to anyone) stfu! Far from it!, just, I don't know, get on with something else? :) unwind the mental gymnastics, it eats minutes and hours you'll never get back.

I certainly hear you @ricky2tricky4city and I agree a lot of it's definitely borne out of tension or desperation to fill the void. For me, I find the psychological aspect of the game almost as interesting as the game that plays out on the pitch itself. That's why I talk quite a bit on here about what's going on in people's heads, be it players, leaders or fans. For me, it's actually what separates good players from great players - what's going on in their minds - and I don't see it as 'eating' minutes - or hours! - I won't get back.

Just my twopenneths...
