*** The Official 26/27 Premier League Thread ***

I don’t buy into the narrative that the players are surprised victims here. Look at Haaland, they bought him for just £50m at a time when he was a £150m player. Everyone knew that was a strange one at the time. He must have known it was dodgy but he went along with it. He’s absolutely blameless of course and it’s not his fault, but to say the players are surprised and shocked that City have been found guilty of financial shenanigans is difficult to believe. .

exactly, he more than most knew what City were, his dad (who was crap) played for them for christ sake

Yeah, honestly thought the coverage was just bizarre and turned off before the end of the game. I get why the broadcasters are doing it, because if you were to state it plainly that one side is made up of cheats who are likely to be punished with at least one relegation, you might lose viewers. But at the same time, having to hear ‘controversy aside, that was a great goal’ or whatever, does my fudging head in. The controversy is the entire point that they can afford those players! You cannot separate them! It is inherently less impressive because they acquired those players by cheating.

The punishment can’t come soon enough.

Unfortunately, it will not come soon enough. There's the appeals process. I differ from several friends here when I say I would not be surprised to hear that some of the independent KC's being approached to review are suddenly going to be 'on holiday' or the like for a while longer thus pushing things back further. Maybe I've been in the US too long where the justice system can be 'massaged' (what a nice phrase eh?!) to work as you wish if yoiu have the means...

Coventry win a couple of games and many Spurs fans are convinced it means they'll beat us.
Had they not won a game many Spurs fans would be convinced it means they beat us.

It must be so depressing to just assume we're going to lose every game.

I certainly don't, we should be beating them

I expect us to beat Coventry but you can't blame fans for thinking we will be beaten. Look at our record since December 2024. It's horrendous. I've been to our stadium for something like 18 league games since and seen us win 1. That's horrific and many fans will have an even worse record as I don't go every week.

You’re right, but the two things are very much connected. The atmosphere is terrible because results have been; results are terrible because the atmosphere is. There’s no belief inside that ground anymore.

It's a fair point. To be fair, in the games I've been to, the atmosphere starts off pretty well but as soon as we go behind, you can feel belief evaporating. We really, really need to break that cycle and get ahead in games.

A lot's been made of the 48 or 49 game streak where we haven't won after going behind. I believe that if we can get ahead in a few games and win a few games, we'll break that streak eventually. What we're seeing isn't a lack of resilience as such, it's a losing culture that has seeped into the club.
