The Limp Struggle to Sneak into the top 4 2021/22

It wasn't that long ago that we had it in our own hands, with games against lower ranked teams and games in hand to close the gap.
Now we're hoping for point reductions and teams getting thrown out of competitions.
We really are a joke at times.
We beat Emirates Marketing Project home and away. We lose to Man U home and away. This club:D…..

Or we really are a club that has suffered because of poor decisions from levy, who finally hired a top class coach at, or near, the peak of his excellence, who has only been here around five months and needs time, and players, to make us properly competitive and consistent.

Indeed…. A par finish for us is 6th… We’re on course to achieve that despite going into the season with a substandard manager who didn’t get replaced until a reasonable part of the season had elapsed. We practically wrote this season off by our actions last spring/summer.

Keep Conte and back him with 60 odd million of net spend (not including the £40m already committed for Romero) and we’ll have a decent chance of finishing in the top 4 next season IMO.

Think we can still finish higher than utd. They have chelsea, arsenal and liverpool still to play.

Meanwhile, let's take the positives as they appear ...

As of now, at our gw 27, we cannot be overtaken by :-

Norwich City ... ... ... ... 13/3

What a huge relief :) You should get sponsorship for this cannot be overtaken by programme :)

After this sunday its the international break. Going into that the league needs to look like this:

Arsenal
Played 28
Points 51

Spurs
Played 29
Points 51

Man Utd
Played 29
Points 50

Wolves
Played 30
Points 49

West Ham
Played 30
Points 48

Bit of a long shot us winning both these games coming up. They are winnable but I wouldn’t be surprised if we win neither. And arsenal could lose at home to pool especially with the quick turnaround and again another quick turnaround after that for their game away at villa, who have a full week to prepare for them.

But again I wouldn’t be surprised if the clams won both games tbh.

Sorry if this has been covered already... but what positions get you into which european comp this season then?

5th + FA Cup winner - Europa League
6th (due to Liverpool finishing top 4...) - Conference League

Yes although the fa cup final will likely be two of pool, city and chelsea. So 6th europa and 7th conference.

Although if russia lose their two CL places for next season, then 5th (along with a strong co-eff) may well end up being a CL place. Then 6th and 7th would be europa and 8th conference .

FA Cup runner-up no longer qualifies for Europe, so it doesn't matter who the two finalists are, only the winners.

If there are vacancies in the CL qualification spaces, for example when the title holder's space is not used, UEFA fills the gap by moving teams forward that would normally start in the preceeding qualifying round rather than giving places to teams that would not otherwise have qualified. If Russia does not have teams in CL, it's most likely that this is how UEFA will fill the places.

xG saved by opposition goalkeeper - so that could mean our finishing has been below par, of course, and that we've hit it straight at the keeper from good scoring positions.

I see that Kane is on course to finish a season having scored fewer goals than xG would expect of a statistically average attacker presented with his opportunities, for the first time since becoming a regular starter for us.

Sons must be a bit poor too this season?

He’s actually exceeding his xG so far this season, as when Son does manage to score it’s often a worldie plus xG won’t take into account the number of times he’s failed to even get a shot off because his first touch has become so poor or he’s slipped over.

I'm probably judging too much on recent performances than the season as a whole.

It will matter who the finalists are if it is an everton or notts forrest and they win it. But by having two of pool, city and chelsea in the final ends that possibility.

If they move teams up like you say then uefa will need other teams to take their places in the earlier qualifying rounds…

That's obviously a long shot, and our inconsistent results makes a strong run difficult to hope for. But there's still hope there.
