The Goon Thread

Arsenal have offered £23m all in, if they get him that cheap we are going to hear a lot more from the Levy out gang.

Imagine if we'd have held out all summer for Brentford to come down to that price and were then gazumped by Arsenal

Yeah that's how it works. Pay a premium to avoid a bidding war and a chance to let your primary target fall into competitors' hands.

There's a premium and then there's a premium. How much would it have been worth? IIRC Brentford weren't budging from their £40k valuation, despite having bought in another keeper and seemingly needing to move out Raya who had said he wanted to leave. Should we have just paid the £40k, even if way above our valuation, thereby taking up a good chunk of the transfer budget?

Edit : Correction - £40M of course.

So with Raya coming in are they planning to sell Ramsdale now then or is he gonna stay as a No2? I know most of us always suggested he was far from as great as they suggested but I thought they all love him and rated him highly
I suspect Raya will be the no.2 and Cup keeper.
Arteta is also very good at taking a holistic approach, so even the "no.1" won't play all games. Having two good keepers could be a real game changer.

Fergie managed it at times. It used to happen in Italy too.

40k?! Even Levy wouldn't baulk at that :D
Jokes aside - our transfer business has changed and caught a few off guard. We're really good at having a few options lined up now so clubs can't back is into a corner. Brentford thought they had a banker of a sale to us, they took the tinkle - we got Vicario done.
I suspect something similar with Man U, but probably with Raya being their second option. If Brentford had lowered the price they might have gone for Raya either a bargaining tool towards Inter or just to get a keeper in if Inter played hard ball.

Brentford shot themselves in the foot and are now one week away from the start of the season with an asset that will leave on a free next year. That not a good position to be in......hmmmm ....
