Summer 2013 signings thread

No. He got 70 points. This bunch got 69 in 2013-2014, and now look nowhere near even that number.
Yeah considering this is the same squad as last season, plus the additions of Fazio, Davies, Vorm, Stambouli as well as a phenomenal season from Kane, if we fail to get 69 points that is actually a bit embarrassing considering a comedy combination of AVB and Sherwood managed to bluff their way to that total..)))

we picked up decent points under AVB, we just got a few thrashings

iirc, when he was sacked we were on course for the same final points tally

Lol - caulker is a poor professional away from the pitch but was a huge prospect and still can be a good prem centre half. Even now he is better than vlad becAuse he doesn't lose EVERY header or doesn't get bullied by mid rate centre halves. But for 7m I am not going to coat him too much,

Your right Caulker is going for his second relegation and is a really good player.

Not perfect but decent. Southampton brought in the same amount of players into a squad which had its heartbeat ripped out of it. Yet, despite paying a fraction of what we did, no one can dispute that their summer signings were ten times better than the ones we bought with our Bale money.

Fingers crossed that was Mitchell's doing and we can see something similar come July

How much better were they though? Southampton are dropping down towards us in the table and are likely to stay below us over time.
Initially praised, their new signings have come under critisism lately and haven't kept their initial performance up.
Most of them wouldn't get into our side, and not played like Capoue, Paulinho, Soldado etc. their heads would also drop as well as their value.
If Tadic was ours people would point out his inconsistency, while if Chadli had his season in Southampton colors we'd look at his 10 goals (twice as many as Tadic) season from midfield with envy.
Don't think any of us are dreaming of a team of Forster, Gardos and Long.
Was a good summer of signings for Southampton that has kept them high in the table, but it wouldn't have been good enough for us, it's more difficult to land the signings needed to take us into the top 4 - we're talking Modric, Berbatov level here.

Also looking at our fab 7 signed with the Bale money, I figure we'd go more or less even if we sold them off.
Capoue, Chiriches haven't dropped much in value. We take a hit on Soldado and Paulinho, but don't forget that Eriksen is likely to have increased his value by £20m. Chadli's goals probably have taken him up to a 10-12m player as well, up from the 7 we signed him for. Lamela will come good eventually.

Higher, I think. We were on course to just about surpass the 72 point mark he achieved in 2012/2013, I think with 73.

Whenever we spend money we fail, Bentley, Soldado, Lamela, Bent, Paulinho, Rebrov, Armstrong etc etc

Every now and again we pull out a modric however its more than likely they will not live up to the expectation.
We are going to probably go back to a more scattergun situation where we see a higher turnover of Capoue, Stambouli type signings with the hope 1 or 2 of each bunch comes off.

It doesnt mean we shouldnt be scouting properly but we cant afford either a finished article or the best youngsters. As soon as we delve into those markets we get stung by the overhyped or over-rated
