***Spurs vs Saudi Sportswashing Machine***, League Cup, 29th October 2025 at St James Park

Personally, id rather put more into this match than Chelsea at the weekend. Although id rather beat Chelsea i think following up the Europa League win with another trophy (no matter what it is) would show last season was not a fluke and would continue a winning mindset. In a 38 game season the Chelsea result doesnt matter much. We only have a shout at the FA and League cups this season.

How many times have we missed out on cl due to a point or 2?

I understand your point but winning at Saudi Sportswashing Machine would mean nothing if we don't win the competition, winning only gets us an other game to play in a congested season. If we didn't have so many players injured we might have been able to cope but I don't think we are in that position at present. Beating Chelsea would mean a lot to our fans and build confidence within the team.
Fans want to win trophies but I've never been as pleased to win the League Cup or whatever it's called currently as the FA Cup. I'm old enough to remember when we didn't bother to enter it.

I'd love to win another trophy. But saying the chelsea match doesn't matter is wrong. They all matter.

You all raise fair and very valid points. Imagine a situation where Frank can get us a jammy win tonight AND a swashbuckling on Saturday??
Yeah, i know...one can but dream, eh?

Hang on @K.D.D.D.D.Soc when was this when we didn't bother to enter the FA Cup???

CHelsea and Saudi Sportswashing Machine have the same fixture schedule as us. Dunno about their injuries. Chelsea have a load of youth to draw on.

We'll see.

Too early to make the LC a priority over the league imo. Still too much of a long shot even if we win this one game.

Saudi Sportswashing Machine are too good to prioritise the league strongly.

Some changes for this one, some others for the Chelsea one. Try to prevent an injury problem becoming an injury crisis. Equal priority to both games. See what happens.

If you read my post I never said it doesn’t matter. I said I’d rather beat Chelsea…

Win tonight and we're in the last 8. United already gone from the Big 6, and others may follow tonight, which could open the draw up. It's not a massive commitment. Esp when the new CL format means anyone can coast the group stages of that.

He's referring to the early years of the League Cup, Bill Nicholson didn't rate the competition so we didn't enter in the very early years.

On the financial side considering how much players are earning these days the League Cup is a waste of resources , think the winner accumulates something like £187,000 in prize money which is peanuts.
I know fans say silverware matters but every PL club wants revenue so they can pay out high transfer fees and big wages, the League Cup doesn't help with that, it's just another 90 minute strain on your players especially if you have a long injury list.

I believe I was referring to Milk/Carling/Carabao/Litllewoods/Coca Cola/Worthington/Capital One Cup which I don't think we entered till late 60s like most 1st division clubs who only joined when it earned an entry to European competition.
