In that sort of game you really hope that Udogie can lighten the creative load but he was anonymous. One game yes but I think descriptive of his limitations.

Really hope he is the answer long term but either way LB is a clear deficiency in the squad.

He also got, what, less than a single half to change a game in which we were dominated start to finish?

Don't think that's very fair on him tbh. He did go down the outside a couple of times and, together with Odobert, helped stretch the play on that side.

What worries me isn't his quality - it's his already concerning injury record.

I think his ban has ended a while back, didn't it?

We have had him as a consultant, and I think that deal is or has now ended. So should announce he is back working for us soon.

Think the chatter was that he would officially take up the role in October.

Unofficially, he's been here for months and has clearly led, or at least co-led, our transfer process this summer.

Think him being back full-time will be a welcome boost to our ability to compete for bigger names, since he seems to have some pull with players in Italy that has led to us getting some players (Romero et al) that were arguably above our typical level of signing at the time.

The other thing that will help is our loosened wage structure - if we're willing to pay Xavi close to 200k a week (which is what our top earner, Romero, gets), then that will give him a lot more flexibility to pitch the Spurs project to players usually above our level - thinking the likes of Leao at Milan.

This transfer window has meant that for our next game, against West Ham, we could be fielding an attack of Kudus, Muani, Simons and Solanke.
That's going to frighten their defence.
And once these players starting gelling and understanding each other and Frank's demands...we could see some very special games.

We've done well on the whole, and strengthened the spine of the side without totally overshadowing the players already here - who, let's not forget, still need a chance to show what they can do under Frank.

The best business of the window was actually tying Romero down to a new deal. Next to that, to stumble from Gibbs-White to Eze, and then end up with Simons who has the potential to outshine both of them, was both lucky and also a well-executed move by the club. Kudus was a good add-on to bring some ball-retention to that attacking midfield third, and Palhinha and Kolo Muani are solid and experienced players who will bring a dose of depth and know-how to a young side that sometimes lacks it.

Is it perfect? No. But we were operating in a truly insane window where Liverpool, Arsenal and Chelsea essentially kept their spending going right to the end, and even supposedly cash-strapped clubs like United dropped 200m like it was nothing. Premier League spending in summer 2025 has hit (iirc) about 4 billion pounds, which is just insane and also a bit morally galling that so much money is being spent on bread and circuses over people. But, it is what it is.

In this sort of hyper-competitive environment, a club like ours will lose out on deals, it's just inevitable. But we did well to prevent being overwhelmed by it and ended up standing our ground relative to the rest of the big six.

If we're still in the CL by winter, I think a depth CB who can play LB, would not go amiss. Perhaps Goncalo Inacio from Sporting, or someone like that.

And come the summer, Frank will have a better idea of which players work and don't work for him, so our spending in summer 2026 will hopefully be more targeted, planned, and hopefully early in the window compared to this year. With Paratici returning in October (apparently), I think we'll have options to pursue.

Overall, a good window with optimism aplenty. :)

I don't think we could have gotten Simons or Kolo Muani earlier in the window. Simons (who was our first choice) was coveted by Chelsea and Kolo Muani (who we've been tracking for years) probably intended to join Juventus if theyhad stumped up the cash. In the meantime we acted on other opportunities when they arose, even if it they didn't work out. Just look at Villa scrambling around on deadline day picking up leftovers.

For sure - that's what I meant re: Xavi being both lucky and a well-executed move. It was lucky that he stayed available until the end of the window, and then got sick enough of waiting for Chelsea that we were able to sneak in, sell him on our project and get him signed up in 24 hours (or so it seemed).

The opportunity arising was fortunate - our ability to seize it was clean and well-done.

Very happy with: Kudus, Simons, Palhinha, Muani, Danso and Vuskovic
Not convinced yet of the logic: Tel, Takai
Disappointment: Not moving on Solomon (permanently) and Biss (yet)
Squad weaknesses: LW and LB (give me Savinho and Mitchell in January)

I think it's between B and C. Not so much the targets , all of whom I like, but for how late the transfers were done which means lost points.

Also two loans probably means we are short of funding and making palhinha and kolo permanent will eat into next seasons transfer budget.

And while we shifted many players, we still could shift bissouma and Solomon. Yeah we won Europa, but finishing 17th probably doesn't make our players more attractive and valuable.

But target remains champions league position and I think 5th is an achievable target . ( We can forget about top four unless we have funds to recruit in the winter.) We absolutely need to be better than Villa, Saudi Sportswashing Machine and Man U.

With regards to outgoings, our struggles always seems to be giving those youngsters a chance to build a fee. Think Mainoo or Elliott, they were all played throughout a season with the main team so were able to shine and therefore are wanted. We had Moore perhaps last season, but mostly due to injuries but I can’t see where the next youngster comes from based on our past 5-10 years. I think we will always struggle selling academy players based on league 1/championship performances.

It's not a judgement made off that one game, it's a feeling I've had for a while. Tbf I think a lot of the times he was poor last season he wasn't fit, which will have been the case on the weekend.

Regardless, a serious team doesn't have 1 specialist left back. (I don't even count Davies anymore)

Only time will tell how good the transfer window is, but I am happy we got some immediate first team players in. Still some areas I feel we’re short for cover but wouldn’t be spurs without something worry or complain about.

Big selling point of Frank is that he’ll make the team overall better than the sum of the parts, so here’s to hoping he is happy with what he has to work with

Whatever happened to
Akanji
Aklioche
Damsgarrd
Dibling
Eze
El Khannouss
Elliott
Gallagher
Guehi
Gibbs White
Grealish
Hincapie
Luis
Lookman
Mboumo
McAtee
Paz
Rabiot
Wissa
Zabarnyi

Please excuse the spelling I started to lose the will to live with all the genuine transfer info.

I'm sure there at least another dozen who were signing for us.
What does concern mean is the lack of homegrown talent we have in the squad. To fulfill the quota for the premier league and European squads (need 8) I think we have 7, and a couple of those are injured. Notably Madders. Solanke could be out longer than stated, and Davies being past his best. Our best youngsters are out on loan. Surely this should have been on the radar of those making transfer decisions?. Harvey Elliott would have been perfect.

Very good window for the club, Frank was never going to complete all his rebuilding in one window, but we have mad a huge inroad into it.

Xavi out of the blue, and after the disappointments of MGW and Eze i think we ended up with a better option.

RKM will be an astute loan, at Juve 22 goals in 40 games last season something we badly need this season, and unlikely to get from Richarlison.

Overall the TW ended up better than it started and has transformed our staring eleven and strengthened our bench.

You say that but have you seen Liverpool’s HG and CT numbers?

I’ve gone for A.

I think it was a great window, and I think it was a bit of a step change, in terms of the amount of quality players we signed within the same time frame.

I know people are saying that LW might be a gap and that may be true, but I think between Tel and Odobert we have good options there. Tel hasn’t hit the heights with us yet, but a few months ago he was considered a top prospect in the world. He is young, but I expect him to come good.

We also could have potentially used another left back, but if Gray is intended cover at RB then we are well set there.

Also loved that we moved on Muani late in the window. Even if it’s because Solanke’s injury is worse than feared, it showed a decisiveness to ensure we had sufficient depth. It wasn’t like we were going to shrug our shoulders and bemoan our luck. It shows we intend to compete.

The only other thing to say is that we are in a new PL era where I’d say every other top club also strengthened a lot. So I’m not sure we improved our standing versus Liverpool, City, Arsenal and Chelsea. But…we did so well ourselves, and I think pushed at the limits of what was realistically possible that I am comfortable voting A. The club deserves credit.

It's always going to be difficult to sign HG player as there are so few to pick from and the best will go to the top 6 clubs or highest wages.
