I think we have done really well there. All the loanees are going to benefit from the extra gamete, so it's a win-win. Bissouma is possibly the player who loses most, albeit with the Turkish window open for another 12 days you feel he is on his way?
Yeah, it feels like there's no way back in for Biss now. Best for all parties if he moved on.

Yes, clearly we don't expect all kids to become first teamers, the majority will be sold for profit, just like every other club in the division.

We all WANT them to be good enough, but it is highly likely they'll all be sold soon - Abbott, Devine, Scarlett, favourites like Lankshear, Hall and Donley, they can't compete if we are buying established internationals like Palhinha/ Xavi Simons etc.

Perhaps Moore will make it in, perhaps Luca Williams Barnett, perhaps Byfield, but the vast majority will be sold off for cash.

About a year ago we were discussing this on the pod. As fans it is very easy to get lost in the hope and glory of it, but what you say is actually the rude truth.

There is a difference this time though. In the past, you could clearly see so many 1st team deadwood that weren't up to standard whilst the kids didn't get a chance to succeed or fail in the 1st team environment. I can only really see Davies now that fits that category and he's not blocking a path because we seem to have a dearth of academy full-backs.

What I would say that if any of those kids break into the 1st team it will be because they're really good. I just hope we have the right process for that.

Whatever happened to
Akanji
Aklioche
Damsgarrd
Dibling
Eze
El Khannouss
Elliott
Gallagher
Guehi
Gibbs White
Grealish
Hincapie
Luis
Lookman
Mboumo
McAtee
Paz
Rabiot
Wissa
Zabarnyi

Please excuse the spelling I started to lose the will to live with all the genuine transfer info.

I'm sure there at least another dozen who were signing for us.

Extremely happy with the calibre of player we've signed. Just to attract such players isn't easy. Winning the first two must have helped. By the time we lost against Bournmouth the deals were probably too far down the line! :D

IMO we blew a chance with the crop which were devloping a few years back. Poor loans, etc...before that? Yes, not great. I think Donley's very unfortunate, possibly a victim of his own versatility, and it became clear that Lankshear needed to develop more. Of the youths we've loaned, Vuskovic is very likely to succeed with us, and most likely Moore. My heart would like Donley to, however it is more likely he will be sold.

Yeah, the challenge will be that we may not get the level of transfer fee we did for Mason, Bentaleb, Townsend, Caulker and Pritchard. If I recall correctly, there was something like £70m for that little lot.

You're only really going to get >£10m if they feature in our first team first.

...bearing in mind that in current terms, 10 mil is the new 5 mill LOL...but yes, I agree with the sentiment. I was always sad about Bentaleb as I felt he was a fine player/specialist but he got into that row with a coach and Poch wasn't having it. Caulker too, sad, and of course Mason was unfortunate...

Unless you’re in the PSR cartel (Villa, Chelsea, Saudi Sportswashing Machine, Forest..) and transferring unknown 18 year olds between each other for 20+m.

Son, Solanke, Johnson, Madds, Kulu, Richi, Odobert, Moore, Werner
plus Tel in Jan

versus

Muani, Solanke, Simons, Kudus, Richi, Johnson, Odobert, Tel, Kulu, Madds

Last season we started with Odobert getting an early injury. Then Richi succumbed as well, and we lost Moore for a long period. Then Ange seemed to oust Werner from his plans and rely on a very few to play a load of games. We probably had 5 or 6 players max for 4 places and not so much chance to implement games from the bench.

This season we know we're without Madds and Kulu, and are all waiting on Solanke. Even without those 3 we can still perm 4 from 7 so currently enough depth to start games strong and change things from the bench. We've also seen Sarr providing yet another good option whereas Ange didn't really see him that way.

It's definitely stronger.

I know it's a squad game but this combo does look especially tasty:

----------------Muani----------------
Simons-------------------Kudus
----------Sarr---Kulusevski-----
---------------Palinha---------------
Udogie-VDV-Romero-Porro
----------------Vicario---------------

With Johnson as super sub.

Tbh I still have question marks about Udogie, especially in a system that forces him to go outside more.

He has absolutely no delivery from wide areas and seems to lack the pace on the ball to get around his man despite being quite a capable dribbler through the middle.

And as much as Spence is an incredible 1v1 defender in any position, he is brick as an attacking LB.

Pretty good window overall but I hope we go in big for a left back soon.

We've done well on the whole, and strengthened the spine of the side without totally overshadowing the players already here - who, let's not forget, still need a chance to show what they can do under Frank.

The best business of the window was actually tying Romero down to a new deal. Next to that, to stumble from Gibbs-White to Eze, and then end up with Simons who has the potential to outshine both of them, was both lucky and also a well-executed move by the club. Kudus was a good add-on to bring some ball-retention to that attacking midfield third, and Palhinha and Kolo Muani are solid and experienced players who will bring a dose of depth and know-how to a young side that sometimes lacks it.

Is it perfect? No. But we were operating in a truly insane window where Liverpool, Arsenal and Chelsea essentially kept their spending going right to the end, and even supposedly cash-strapped clubs like United dropped 200m like it was nothing. Premier League spending in summer 2025 has hit (iirc) about 4 billion pounds, which is just insane and also a bit morally galling that so much money is being spent on bread and circuses over people. But, it is what it is.

In this sort of hyper-competitive environment, a club like ours will lose out on deals, it's just inevitable. But we did well to prevent being overwhelmed by it and ended up standing our ground relative to the rest of the big six.

If we're still in the CL by winter, I think a depth CB who can play LB, would not go amiss. Perhaps Goncalo Inacio from Sporting, or someone like that.

And come the summer, Frank will have a better idea of which players work and don't work for him, so our spending in summer 2026 will hopefully be more targeted, planned, and hopefully early in the window compared to this year. With Paratici returning in October (apparently), I think we'll have options to pursue.

Overall, a good window with optimism aplenty. :)

That's how he played when he was in Italy.
I don't think we will see him whip in balls like Porro can or the one from Spence that Tel almost scored from at the weekend. But he can get down the wing and cut the ball back.

Paratici only ever* buys players from Juve, so we can probably know who we are signing, simply by looking at the Juve squad at Christmas.

*This is a lie.

PS - someone said Paratici's ban ends today, so he can slot back in right away?

I think his ban has ended a while back, didn't it?

We have had him as a consultant, and I think that deal is or has now ended. So should announce he is back working for us soon.

I seem to remember all his best clips coming from him dribbling in the channel, and popping up with goals. That being said I never actually watched him play.

I do like him as a player but he needs to step up significantly if he's going to be the answer.

Look at Saturday. We had Johnson who isn't the most involved on the right but is frankly terrible in all round play on the left. The ball just doesn't stick with him, he struggles to pass crisply and he can't beat a man.

In that sort of game you really hope that Udogie can lighten the creative load but he was anonymous. One game yes but I think descriptive of his limitations.

Really hope he is the answer long term but either way LB is a clear deficiency in the squad.
