It is objectively better for us as a club to spend £70m on a player that could be performing well with us for 4-5 years (and have a chance of reaching the top, top level), than spending £70m on a player who will be 29 in less than 2 years and past his peak.
When we only have the budget for X amount of players per year it’s not penny pinching to want to get a few years out of a £70m signing…
I’m happy this fell through, BUT only if we buy Savinho or someone of equal calibur and a #10
Whoever we go for now, their price has just gone up significantly when it comes to us. Other clubs will know we’re moving into desperation territory as we move into the latter stages of the window.
