Quacks & Pseudoscience

The Japanese government withdrew their recommendation to have the HPV vaccine, you can still get the vaccine in Japan and they'll pay for it:

The health ministry decided June 14 to withdraw its recommendation for a vaccination to protect girls against cervical cancer after hundreds complained about possible side effects, including long-term pain and numbness.

The Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare is not suspending the use of the vaccination, but it has instructed local governments not to promote the use of the medicine while studies are conducted on the matter.

So far, an estimated 8.9 million people have received the vaccination, out of which, 176 cases of possible side effects, including body pain, have been reported. (Note, the Health Ministry was investigating 43 adverse events out of around 3.3 million HPV vaccinations.)

The ministry’s task force have focused closely on those cases. However, a cause-and-effect relationship between the vaccination and the pain and numbness could not be established, so the task force members called for further studies by the ministry.

The ministry’s investigation is expected to take several months. It will then decide whether to reinstate or continue to withhold its recommendation for the vaccination.

So again you refuse to accept that it weakens your case. You have repeatedly made the link between vaccination and the increased diagnosis of autism. The experience of Japan, where the vaccines that you speculate could be the cause of the rise were withdrawn but the diagnosis of autism continued to rise in line with western rates, strongly support a false correlation.

If you read the article in Japan Today at the bottom of my post, you will have also noted that western vaccines have sometimes been withdrawn whilst a local vaccine was developed. They are also very bureaucratic in licencing drugs. Rather than just being a scepticism about vaccines, it appears that there could be an element of industrial protectionism and a bureaucratic logjam too.

Well. MMR withdrawn but the single shots continue

HPV withdrawn

Whatever spin you put on it the Japanese are more sceptical about vaccine safety than you are.

And then there is the Russians...

Again. It is pointless discussing this with you because you refuse to engage on the point. You refuse to discuss evidence, fall back on speculation and anecdotes and when you find the conversation difficult, try to move it on.

I'm not interested in the Russians unless they have carried a rigorous scientific trial on the subject but I suspect that you are trying to move us onto a misrepresented and vague half truth.

How about Putin who describe us as “intensively vaccinated borderline autistic fat man slumped in front of a screen battling a high-fructose corn syrup comedown,”

And you know what. He is not wrong. You stand outside the Emirates Stadium and it is hard to disagree.

He even goes as far as to say Western governments are enslaving humanity through vaccines...

You got me there, no one could question Putin's scientific credentials or impartiality.

Well. We are stuck on this. We say it is ethical. Pharma say it is not. Nothing happens. More vaccines are added to the schedule, more (anecdotal) vaccine damage, more polarisation.

I am guessing it will take a major vaccine safety scandal that Pharma can't keep a lid on to change the current thinking on this. Or Trump. Both would be a catastrophe. .

Do you understand why it is not ethical?

What are your thoughts on the animal study I posted a while back?

In particular this sentence stands out

"An Indian parliamentary committee set up to probe the issue concluded the Path project was a clinical trial in all but name and that the organisation had used “subterfuge” to avoid the “arduous and strictly regulated process” of such a trial."

And you wonder why we don't trust you.

I think it is cruel to force vaccinate animals

You understand how drug development works right? And why we use animals before humans, yes?

I also think it is unethical to use poor brown people for your vaccine experiments

Pharma (and that tosser Bill Gates) are the unethical ones.

PATH were cleared of all responsibility when it was confirmed that one girl drowned in a quarry, another died from a snake bite, two committed suicide by ingesting pesticides, and one died from complications of malaria. The last two were pyrexia and a brain haemorrhage.

It's that causation correlation thingy again. You should really look into it.

What's the story? Behind the FTs pay wall.

7 kids died in a study run by PATH (Bill Gate's organisation for getting vaccines out to 3rd world kids quicker) for PCV vaccine.

One girl drowned in a quarry; another died from a snake bite; two committed suicide by ingesting pesticides; and one died from complications of malaria. The causes of death for the other two girls weren't fully confirmed but one possibly from pyrexia and the other a suspected brain haemorrhage.

But @JPBB thinks it was the vaccine and it's all a big cover up.

Cheers Millsy.

Looks like this was Path's response:
http://www.path.org/news/press-room/642/

This bit sounds strangely familiar:
"While PATH welcomes the transparency and discussion of our work, we strongly disagree with the findings, conclusions, and tone of the released report and its disregard of the evidence and facts."

Vaccination scandal taints reputation of India drug trials

Deaths after HPV immunisations have highlighted sensitivities

NOVEMBER 18, 2013

by: Amy Kazmin in New Delhi

About 72,000 Indian women die each year of cervical cancer, a disease caused by the human papillomavirus. Many of these deaths are preventable by vaccines already widely used in the US, Australia and Europe, and included in their recommended immunisation protocols.

In 2009, Path, a US-based health charity, launched a project funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation to study the cost and feasibility of incorporating HPV vaccines, produced by Merck and GlaxoSmithKline, into India’s public sector immunisation programme.

However, the programme to vaccinate 14,000 adolescent girls from poor families ran into trouble after seven died soon after their vaccinations. The ensuing media and political storm – highlighting sensitivities around drug trials in the developing world – has contributed to the restrictions on such studies, affecting both Indian and global pharmaceutical companies.

The causes of the girls’ deaths were never established or conclusively linked to the HPV vaccine. But serious questions were raised over whether the participants’ parents – many of whom were illiterate – had given informed consent, and whether the project adequately tracked any adverse reactions.

In August, an Indian parliamentary committee set up to probe the issue concluded the Path project was a clinical trial in all but name and that the organisation had used “subterfuge” to avoid the “arduous and strictly regulated process” of such a trial.

The committee report said many of the girls’ consent forms had apparently been signed by school principals and hostel wardens, and expressed scepticism that the girls’ parents were fully briefed on the pros and cons.

The committee also found there was no rigorous process to track adverse events, leading to “gross underreporting”. It came down hard on Indian government agencies for alleged dereliction of duty.

“The safety and rights of the children in this vaccination project were highly compromised and violated,” the report said.

It also claimed that Path’s “sole aim was to promote the commercial interests of HPV vaccine manufacturers, who would have reaped windfall profits had Path been successful in getting the HPV vaccine included” in India’s immunisation protocols.

Path called the parliamentary report an “inaccurate characterisation of this important work” and said it disagreed with its “findings, conclusions and tone”.

The organisation said the HPV project was driven by its belief that “poor and low-income girls in India should not be deprived of the right or access to this proven, life-saving and safe vaccine that wealthy and middle-class girls in India and around the world have access to through the private market and other public immunisation programmes”.

You see the Indian Government strongly disagrees with Millsy assessment that it was just a coincidence.

The committee also found there was no rigorous process to track adverse events, leading to “gross underreporting”.

Indeed they go further and say that there is gross underreporting of adverse effects.

But it is ok. Millsy says it is just a coincidence.
