because they didnt - for example the Norwegian model was pushed quite a lot by Brexit groups its only after the vote that out means out has become the mantra. not going to get involved again as this has been done a death but need to bring it up.

Well he sort of started the attempt to Protestantise Ireland through immigration from Scotland, which others continued on a grander scale later

It's still the thing that winds up the likes of the DUP, that they never got their promised land. The whole Stormont stand-off now is about a Scots language act, and pretty much no one in Scotland even cares about Scots language (outside of a few weirdy beardy folk musicians and the druids)
