Politics, politics, politics (so long and thanks for all the fish)

What's the ideal? German corporatism enforced by French statism?

I think the 'ideal' would be a union of countries where free movement is encouraged, the ability to live/work within the union is unfettered, and an agreement be made with regards to maintaining a level of both wages and services for each member nation. A national healthcare system in each member country. An agreement that there always be a % of affordable housing available (not just 'market-rate' but proper, affordable housing). Each country having nationalised water and power infrastructures. An agreed standard of education. Food standards which encourage health. Agricultural agreements which support and reward fresh produce and local farming whilst also embracing fair trade of such goods within member nations. It would require a root commitment to the idea of societies being supported with basic structures.

Of course this is an ideal which will never be achieved. I'd take a compromise on the above for sure. People would be so afraid that something like the above takes away from nation 'sovereignty' that I'd likely be put in the stocks and have tinned-tomatoes thrown at me, but I believe there is absolutely a way in which a basic structure of this nature could be put in place AND still allow us our wenslydales and morris dancing and lederhosen and sauerkraut, etc, etc...but again, sadly 'tis an ideal!

We can only rejoin based on a referendum or election that’s an effective referendum on rejoining. Giving Britain zero leverage in negotiations to rejoin.
We shouldn't have any leverage. We walked away and it's hurt us.

This is now about joining a trading bloc - we have to show we are a Partner that can be treated

I like your manifesto. I would add that all this has to be done sustainably or we are at nought. And that means brickcanning capitalism.

There is an argument to be had about which wolf is at the door now. Which wolf, if we killed it would give us some breathing space? The centre of the murderboard is Russia in my opinion and as such the solution is Ukraine. Russia fudge with everything and the opportunity cost of their machinations is immense.

Also, we need to rethink our food system, and fast. That is already on the brink. We are rolling the dice every year on multiple breadbasket failures. To date, when one has suffered, the slack has been picked up by others (with higher prices) but we are not going to dodge this indefinitely. When it eventually happens no one is really prepared for the consequences, and they won't be pretty. This is the one that I fret over (as luckily I am not being bombed).

Less humanity in the form of depopulation resolves many global problems.

I understand there are twice as many people on earth as there were when I was born and they are living longer. It’s hardly surprising we are fighting over resources.

Imagine if two of the Axis of Evil have their wings properly clipped over the next fortnight. Trump neutered by losing control of both houses, and Netanyahu out of government and on his way to prison

Trump will, at best, ignore the election results. At worst, I think we’ll see something like a declaration of martial law.

I'm gaining a little faith that slowly some of the Republican party are seeing beyond Trump for their survival and I don't think he has the overwhelming support he would need to just ignore the results straight out. I think he will initially try and rule via executive order but Congress will just freeze the budget. I think Hesgeth hasn't got the control over the Department of Defence that he hoped for and martial law wouldn't have the support of either the military or the National Guard. It would rely on local red-capped militias, which there will be but not enough or disciplined enough.

My money is on them replacing him with Vance for the remainder of this term sometime after Thanksgiving.

Think you are clutching at straws on Netanyahu. If anything Israel is moving even more to the right according to the polls I can see. Bibi may lose and be out of power but the winners will likely pardon him of everything as they continue to scrap the Supreme Court and the independence of the judiciary. The proper opposition (as in opposed to Netanyahu's position rather than building upon it) haven't got the popular support to swing the pendulum even with record numbers of Israeli Arabs likely to vote.

I'm thinking along these same lines. 25th Amendment (or natural causes) is coming at some point. There is a date after which Vance gets to run for two more terms as potus, or just one before it. Not sure when that date is but Thiel has not invested all the time and effort for a one-term presidency.
