Politics, politics, politics (so long and thanks for all the fish)

Exactly this, just seems an excuse to finger point at people

A for what point do you plan for and balance life? Plan for every potential situation in life and love scared and frugally because you are scared of a a government decision that might triple your mortgage (ala Truss in a mates case).

I worked fcuking hard for the first 15 years of my career in an industry which notoriously pays little and lived salary to salary to get where I am today and be slightly more comfortable. If I lost my job In that time or had a major set back I would have been fcuked......nice to know some would have been a cnut about the circumstances if I claimed off the Rock n Roll
How many kids do you have?

And who would you trust to implement and enforce it? Our political system....

It’s also frankly ridiculous that a set of protections for peoples human rights are seen as the bad guys in the room.
Hopefully people won’t fall for the old ‘Brexit’ trick. I’m sure we have an oven ready deal there to replace ECHR - yeah right!

IMO the only way anyone should ever vote (if it went to a vote) to leave the ECHR would be if a replacement was actually already agreed and the exact terms and conditions known.

Personally I think rhe ECHR will instead be changed from within.

There was a very workable solution for them to apply in Calais. The French scuppered it.
So in the '1 in 1 out ' deal....we process and ascertain an asylum seeker as 'unsuccessful' and send them back in return for an asylum seeker that will be successful in their application? So have the French processed the asylum seeker as 'successful' before they send them?

I said nothing about their status, only their method of arrival. Anyone who has arrived via an illegal route deserves nothing from the state.
I know what you said. This is the usual circular argument from those who don't want anyone arriving. I was just pointing out the absurdity of it.

Why should we agree to that? What evidence do you have for it?

Let's dial this back a minute. Let me answer your question with a couple of mine.
1) Do you genuinely sit there believing that there are masses of people currently in the UK whose sole aim and ambition in life is to pop out as many children as they can without any responsibility in the expectation that they should be suported solely by benefits?
2) Do you have proof it isn't rare?
Again, do you genuinely believe there is a large swathe of people on welfare who see children as a way to 'make a living'?

People forget the environmental and biological lottery they won to be in a position to type hate towards people with less. It astonishes me.

There's very few people who weren't born with wealth/safety and/or extreme talent, who have absolutely risen to a position of privilege.

We are so fukin lucky and most of us don't seem to realise and have embraced narcissism that we ourselves are the main reason we have it comfy. Luck.

So as my friend @thfcsteff explained so perfectly, if you want to be in society you play your effin part in society. And people having basic living standards won't kill you.

So SO true!

The bolded bit is a big part of the problem - as in the perception such statements give. In reality asylum seekers are not being put up in “hotels”. Rather hotels are being commandeered as accommodation for asylum seekers, such that they are no longer “hotels” but more like accommodation blocks.
I think everyone agrees that’s not an optimal solution but until the whole system of assessing claims is speeded up it’s what we are left with.

Again, so true. I think many people see that word and immediately think room service, feather pillows and enormous soaking tubs. As you quite rightly said, they're accomodation blocks and not much more.

The "1 in 1 out" deal is terrible, that's not what I mean. We had a deal with the French where we would put in the means for applying for UK asylum in Calais. We would transport over those we accepted and the rest would stay in France. The French scuppered that deal.

It's one of the few advantages to being on an island. I'm not against having places overseas where people can apply for asylum. I'm not against accepting the first <insert relevant number> of those applications. I'm 100% against even considering processing claims from people who were already in a safe country who then break the law to get here.

You were fine with the Ukrainian solution.
Accepting applications from overseas? Yeah - that's the only way it can or will ever work.

Accept a reasonable number of applications made through the correct processes in a legal manner. Automatically reject all applications made from within the UK as the law has already been broken to get here.

No, it was asylum via a route opened for Ukrainians alone.

Also you do not understand the law. Yes they may have made an illegal journey here but once they apply for asylum they are not illegal and they can do that as soon as they arrive. How come all of you right wingers pretend not to have any brains when it comes to understanding the law?
