*** OMT Tottenham Hotspur v Aston Villa FC ***

We'd have walked that game if we'd already have had Souza. Lange out!

Although as per our one in one out policy demonstrated by Richy kindly making way for the returning Solanke, presumably once the obscure Brazilian kid comes in we'll probably lose Spence for a few months.

Anywho. We're out of the cup. That's what you get when you want until the 60th minute to start playing. Had it continued to be so bad I was worried it'd turn in to a full on brawl between players and fans...Some moments here and there but we just aren't a good team at the moment. Everyone is capable of mistakes but it was howler from Vic that would've put us three down, whatever the circumstances, we are adept at giving the opposition easy chances.

Midfield is a big problem (maybe it was about formations rather than quality today), even with Palhinha being class, what combination of players goes with him to provide what we need. Sure he's young so how dare I expect anything but I'm not seeing it with Archie in Midfield, and I'm rarely impressed by Bentancur. Sarr and Bergvall are ones to watch but they need a real meastro alongside them to make it work.

Another wretched day out at the hands of THFC.

A second half ‘rearguard action ‘ it may have been, but it’s utterly pointless when you’ve already surrendered the game to pathetic,
Schoolboy level goals(again).

On the upside, the Club celebrated a time when a non-league outfit had more fight than a top level outfit and was able to play with some proper grit, determination and pride. Honestly, ‘lovely’ though the new kit was I think it makes the club look unbelievably small time making such a song and dance about winning it in 1901. Who the hell celebrates a 125 year anniversary? We didn’t celebrate the centenary in 2001 (when we actually had a cup run) so why the hell now? It’s almost like we are deflecting attention away from something.

However, nothing can deflect from the absolutely dire straits that THFC finds itself in right now.

We are royally fudged.

Well 4 more games before Jan is up. I reckon Frank will get those games. It’s not all on him tho but he did get a reaction at HT I was pleased to see that but we were no where near it in the first half and I did fear the worse. Solanke back is a positive and Xavi had his best 45 in a spurs shirt. Jury is out for me on Tel still. Richy and Manuani can leave I’ll give them the taxi fee to the airport. There are a few others but too late tonight. COYS

Don't put it on him, said it elsewhere, VDV basically made a point re the players had a reaction at HT

Add in the absolutely game killing subs, he's learnt nothing, 30 games in, doesn't fudging know his best 11, literally every player decision seems nonsense (he exiled Tel for half the season, clearly one of our more effective players, everyone saw Odobert earlier in season, same thing, in and out, he continues to run Porro into the fudging ground, when he finally decided to switch from the stupid pivot and only play one, he chose Bentancur over Paulhinha).

Our standards are now "well, at least we had 20 minutes of decent football"

Anyone really think we are going to beat West Ham and Burnley?

Villa players are clams.

Palhinha needs to do dish out some Dier on Fabregash style treatment to that Goon clam Watkins at the end of this season  Hopefully by May we’ll be the ones doing the goading 🤞

The intent was different in that second half from anything this season. Its the old analogy from the dark days of the end of Conte, but it was nice to see us take the handbrake off. Our 3 young AMs starting looking like the players we hope they'll be
Missed the first half an hour of the first half. What I did see of the first half obviously wasn't good.

Intent definitely looked different in the second half compared to that. Handbrake was off as you say. We weren't able to maintain that, Villa had stronger subs to bring on and we looked really exhausted towards the end.

Surprised that RKM is getting stick. 2nd half (along with Xavi) easily his best 45 for us.

He turned them round on multiple occasions. Ball actually stuck with him and he showed quality - not just for the goal. Lovely bit of skill to setup Xavi shortly after.

We don’t have many who can take the ball under pressure and link play and with Richy now out we’ll need more from him like that 2nd half - even if he is just back up to Solanke.

Frank left the subs too late and we’d already lost any impetus we had. The game was 83 mins old (incl 5 extra in first half) when we brought on our 2nd sub and we’d already been flat for 10/15 mins. Then players were tired by then.

In the last 10ish days we’ve lost Kudus, Bergval, Bents and Richy. Returning we have Solanke and Udogie. Both won’t be effective for at least a few weeks.

More CL games coming soon so we need bodies in or we are going to continue to be innefective in the last 20/30 mins of games.

His options were definitely limited. For Solanke and Udogie returning from injuries the game could have gone into extra time so probably not much room to bring them on earlier.

I agree that we need some reinforcements to come in.

Do we call it out? Does the manager draw attention to it in any media?
I actually think it needs to be called out. We are being refereed differently - you can see in every game. Any brush on Villa players yesterday and they were given a foul. We had players getting scythed down and nothing.

We are a media (and other fans) punch bag. You don’t think refs hear the whole country singing Tottenham get battered?

Either consciously or subconsciously (the human mind will err towards the safe choice) it’s very easy for them to referee against our favour and there will be no repercussions from anyone. The data supports it; we are a big outlier in the cards per fouls number. Against Liverpool there was one actual tackle in the first half but at half time we had conceded 7 fouls and them 1. Yesterday 17 for us, 10 for them.

There’s also video examples everywhere. The two handed push on Romero - punished against us in every game I’ve watched since. The Xavi red, identical tackle from Hwang last PL game. No VAR intervention.

We need to say SOMETHING to get them thinking or to start a conversation.

Just another stick to beat the manager with ridiculous. How do you know he hasn't spoken with Howard Webb at PGMOL
Your reading of my post is ridiculous. Who has said 'fire Thomas' because of this? Spurs rarely plays the complaints card in public and it hurts us. I see teams get away with murder against us and it irritates me. Does anyone remember the pre-Palacios days when the word was Spurs were weak while the likes of Bolton were physically cheating against us with the referees turning a blind eye.

I agree. See Martinelli's behaviour. Hours after no call against him, Romero's ban was extended! I was livid when I read that.

It is also why I was wondering why some fans were upset with Ange starting to purposefully defend Spurs in the media and call out the unfair instances. There is a reason why Arteta was doing what he did past seasons. Arsenal are getting away with murder in some games this season.

What where did I say you said fire him not everything has to be done in the media & how do you know we haven't been talking to Mr Webb

I am remember way before palacios days when we played on mud heaps & were kicked all over the place. Don't remember burkinshaw having to front the media to complain about the tackling. Played Wimbledon in the cup Hoddle was kicked for 90 minutes his answer score a wonderful freekick.

You mentioned 'another stick to beat the manager with'. I think we have not been pointing out the treatment we are getting and we should do so. It has been something we have stomached for a while. The managers should call it out.

Just to be clear I wasn't accusing you of wanting the manager sacked. If using the stick to beat the manager line & calling it ridiculous offended you I apologise

I don't doubt we should complain but we have different ways of going about it. I think behind closed doors is the way to go

I am not offended kb. I understand my words could have been perceived in another light and I apologise as well. I don't think the way we are doing it is working and you know what is said about expecting different results when doing something consistently the same way.

I remember the CWC SF against Barca at the Lane. They were hands down the dirtiest side I have ever seen at the Lane. Butchers. I have always held a slight grudge against them and their saintly reputation since...
